I've had my eye on the old school type cruiser bikes for some time now. I decided I was going to buy a bike and start riding the bike trail and neighborhood with the kids. Not knowing any better, I took my husband to Target to see the pepto pink beauty I had my eye on. He laughed so hard he about had a stroke! He insisted I would be laughed off the trail and that I need at least a few gears for some hills we have here in our area in Florida. Everything I found that I semi liked was $200 plus. So, my husband advised me if I was serious and going to shell out at least $200 I needed to go to the LBS. I did my research on our only bike shop and started seriously looking at some Treks online.
What an experience going to a LBS! I told the man what I wanted: minimal gear shifting, upright position, peddle brake if possible. He showed me the Pure Lowstep and had me ride it. I loved it! He showed me 2 different Navigators, I didn't,t like the seat and he noticed I would be more comfortable if I didn't have to tilt the bike to the side to get off. He then pulled down the Pure Deluxe Owstep from the window. I rode it and knew this was the bike for me! It was beautiful and smooth. I felt like I was 10 again, minus the banana seat. I took the kids to lunch to think about the $500 investment. That afternoon I came back and bought my beauty! Now I am making excuses to just ride. ;)
I dusted off the bike trailer my husband bought me 3 years ago when I decided to ride my $100 piece of junk Roadmaster mountain bike that he bought me 8 years ago and caused me pain every time I tried to ride. I hooked said trailer up and we are ready to ride like the wind. My only problem is that now I feel bad that my 13 year old is riding a piece of junk bike. Looks like she may need a Trek for her 14th birthday this summer. ;)
I know one thing I will never buy a department store bike again! My husband recently bought a Trek with some incentive points he had from a vender from his job and loves his too. I cannot wait to hit the trail as a family. :)
