I got given this bike to mind... for a while, some guys from my dads work where on vaction. and anywho...

When I saw it I thought wtf?

it looks really strong...

I rang a few bike shops in Australia.. no one knew too much about it..

So i just got on the net to find out... shouldn't it have a motor??

bit heavy isn't it??

600 Australian dollars is 1200 USD....I think the Bullit is mroe than that. It is an awesome bike though!!

The frame alone goes for about $1100 US

The Monster T (that is a monster, right?) costs about $900 US.

Depending on the rest of the components, I'd estimate that that bike cost about $4500 AU to build.

Remember to ask the owner if it is supposed to have an engine on it. Ask several times.

Ive looked over the bike - and these are the parts on it --

* Frame = SantaCruz Bullit
* Front Fork = Marzocchi Monster T
* Rear Shock = Fox Vanilla RC
* Wheels = Dice Rims / DT Swiss Centres / Leopard 2.6" Tyres
* Controls = Azonic Chubby Bars / Azonic stem / Oury Grips
* Seat = Azonic
* Brakes = Hayes Hydraulic 8" & 6" Discs
* Shifter = Shimano XTR
* Cranks = shimaro XTR
* Rear Gear changer = Shimano XTR
* Funny roller thing = Black spire Dual Slalom 38T

How much is the bike worth really ... i want to make the guy an offer ... as I love the way this thing rides... its very confidence inspiring.... $600, $1000, more I can't get a straight answer...

I would offer ~$1000 USD, but wouldnt pay over $1500 for it. Are you into mtn biking? That bike would be a pain to ride up a hill, or for general XC cycling. Its more of a downhill / ski-resort / urban riding bike.

So, i guess you should first ask if this is the correct bike for you.

They are a bit heavy. I think about 32-36 lbs. depending on size and setup. If you go to SantaCruz's site, they have the retail pricing there. Anywhere from around $2000 to $3500.
http://www.santacruzmtb.com/
I should also add a friend of mine bought one of these last spring. He lives in Santa Cruz. He said it's great on the descents but it's a mutha on the climbs. He is now looking for a lighter bike for general XC riding. Just a thought.

Joe you obviously dont know how much that bike is worth!:D The owner of that bike probably wont take an offer under $2500 USD, because if he dosent work at a shop he probably paid more than $3,000 for it!:beer:anyway....it looks practically new.

*shrug* I can pick up the same bike (more or less) with full XT and Boxxer fork at my LBS for $2200, for any used bike, i usualy would offer half of retail :)

Its always a good idea to bid low, i just picked up a full dura-ace quantum race (road bike) w/ vector pros, top of the line everything for $1008.23 shipped. The bike would retail for over $3G :)

My bike has just over 500 miles on it, so its rather new aswell.

damn joe, can I live with u so I can get that good of deals? O yea, you meant you could get that frame with no rear shock but with a boxxer and an xt shifter for $2200! :D I was sick of hitting the back button a million times, so heres the bike again http://www.micro-op.com.au/bullit.jpg

I don't mind it being a bit on the heavy side as im trying to get fit... the thing I love about it is the lack of caution needed when going down stairs, of curbs hell you can hit a curb at full speed and it just goes up it without a whimper... it is tireing riding it all over the place... I LIKE IT :)

KleinMp99
04-05-02, 08:38 PM
Yes, that bike will take everything you can throw at it I bet. Fun bike.

Klien, i'll drop by my LBS and check out the bullets tomarro, find out correct specs. They build them up for XC / Ski resort riding, not true downhill machines; that may be the reason they sell them cheaper. :)

KleinMp99
04-05-02, 08:44 PM
I'm just saying, the frame only with rear shock and boxxer would probably be like 1500 or more.....and then full xt and whatever wheels you get and chainguide.....etc etc......I dont think you could get it for $2200....but I dont know.

I just didnt know the exact price of the frame, and I know that the boxxer is around 1K, so I estimated the frame at $500, even though i KNOW that that frame is more like 800+

But guys, this is not brand new. Parts losse value as soon as they leave the shop, and they lose value every year. I would say take 20 percent off the original price, or estimated price.

C_M_1
04-05-02, 09:34 PM
the more I search the web the More Depressed I'm getting about the price....
i got these prices from MTBR... uSDollars

Frame Inc rear shock = $1100.00
Monster T Shock = $900.00
Shimano XTR Groupset = $1600.00
wheelset = $600.00
hayes brakes =$299.00
chain device = $100
azonic chubby handlebar/stem/seat = $296.00

total = $ 4895.00 USD ok thats new and in parts break down
that like 10k aussie... :cry:

say take 30 % off its still shiatt expensive and the bike looks new...

hmm did you know that in australia the front brake lever is on the right hand..

Joe Gardner
04-05-02, 09:52 PM
You can change that if you want, alot of people who ride motorcycles set there bikes up with a right hand front break, so they dont have to make the change when changing from motorbike to bicycle :)

I found this review on the monsterT quite amusing -

"DA BOMB!! IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS KIDDIES. HERE WE HAVE A FORK THAT CAN HIT A SMALL CAR AT SPEED AND GO ON ITS WAY LEAVE THE PILOT SAYING TO HIMSELF, "DID YOU FEEL SOMETHING?" YES IT'S TRUE, THE FORK IS DESIGNED TO TACKLE FORD FIESTA'S, SUZUKI SWIFT'S AND THE OCCASIONAL YUGO. THE WEIGHT IS A LITTLE WIERD BUT YOU GET USED TO IT QUICKLY AND COMPENSATE. IF YOUR A WHIMP, GO BUY THOSE JELLO'E BOXXERS, OR MAYBE THOSE INSANELY CRAPY XVERT CARBON'S. ALL YOUR FRIENDS WILL ASK YOU WHY YOU SMELL LIKE TUNA. IF YOU WANT THE BEST, THEN MARZOCCHI IS FOR YOU. I'VE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH OIL LEAKS OR ANY OTHER MECHANICAL STUFF...EVER. ALSO, CHANGE THE STOCK FORK OIL AFTER ABOUT 2 MONTHS OF USE BECAUSE THE STOCK OIL CONTAMINATES QUICKLY. USE HONDA PRO OR SILKOLENE 10 WT. THIS WILL GIVE YOU THAT INCREDIBLY AMAZING, SOFT AS A BABIES A$$ RIDE THAT ONLY ZOKES CAN DELIVER."

I don't get it; when did this go from 'I'm minding the bike for so-and-so, where's the engine on this bizzare contraption' to 'I love how it rides down stairs?'

Does the owner know that they are selling it?

My friend has a set-up almost identical to the one in the pic with the exception of the crankset, and his hits the scales at over 40 lbs. I must say however, I'm envious everytime I see it! He works at a shop and has over $3,500 invested. That would make it about $4200 USD for mere mortals!
