Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - It's Friday! What riding do you have planned for the weekend?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

What are your riding plans for the weekend? I don't have any yet and I need you to inspire me.

A quick run up the local MUP on the fixed gear? Tandem ride with Mrs. Handsomeryan? Pedal a section of the C&O Canal?

My first metric century on a single speed. Metric centuries are my favorite distance. I ride several a year. However, tomorrow I will try it on a single speed for the first time. Mostly flat terrain so it should not be a problem.

Good luck.

I rode the 25-mile leg of the Smokey Mountain Wheelmen Fall Century a couple years ago on my fixed gear. Rolling hills but nothing too crazy. I completed it so quickly that I considered taking a second lap (making it almost a metric-c) but I had carpooled with a friend and he didn't seem to want to go around again.

Thinking about fun. Hoping the rain holds off so I can ride. Seems like its been spoiling all my planned rides. Just around town with friends; getting the legs used to being on the bike.

:crash:

In all seriousness, my spring break starts at 2:50pm this afternoon, and I'm heading back home tomorrow morning. Yay! I'm bringing a frame (or two) with me, but not for riding.

The MUP looks to be mostly free of snow and ice so I'll probably lay down 25 miles of fixed gear thrills Sunday morning.

Is that song for real? It's so... horrible :injured:

Wednesday I did 45 miles, yesterday 50 (all FG.) Today I'm taking it easy and bringing out the geared MTB to go for a ride around town with the girlfriend.

Things are getting busy at the shop where I sometimes tech so I'll be building about a dozen bikes to make some extra cash. Just got back from a short ride and it kinda sucked - even though it's close to 60 degrees here today, it's also way too windy.

Tomorrow there's a planned 14 mile ride hosted by one of the local advocacy groups. Sort of a "Tour de Bike Shop" circle around the city. I'd go out today for a quick ride but it's super windy.

I feel bad; I've only put in about 10 miles this week.

Why is everyone in that video including the "singer" (and I am using the term loosely), ugly and have zits and/or braces.

I would say C&O canal. I usually start outside of Great Falls and head towards Cumberland. They have the list of parking lots here just outside of GF. http://bikewashington.org/canal/ We are supposed to have great temps this weekend. It is a nice ride, with little traffic once you get past all of the weekend warriors at Great Falls.

BTW, I am working all weekend, but if I wasn't this would be on the short list.

Probably because they aren't pop stars/models, they're real akward pre-teens. Check it out: http://www.bohemian.com/citysound/?p=7181. The song/video is the result of pushy parents and creepy "producers" who are taking advantage of a young girl's dream. Yeah, the song sucks, but no worse any of my creative enterprises as a child. Unfortunately, this girl's akward attempt got plastered all over the internet to be made fun of by grown ups with nothing better to do.

I don't mean to be a buzzkill, but could we maybe start making fun of someone who deserves it?

I'm both jealous and happy I'm not doing the same.

I've logged about 150 miles this week. My ankles are still killing me from Salton Sea and I can't seem to find my legs this week (IE I'm having a really hard time keeping a decent pace) so i'm going to drive to work today then ride "the ride with no name" this evening. Hopefully I'll see Hairnet, although I have my doubts.

This weekend I'll likely go to a big music festival and spend sunday recovering.

I agree. There is no way that singers/actors that age know what a bad project is. They are just happy to be involved with a project.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of wannabe singers' videos on youtube that are just as bad. I'm not sure why this one blew up.

I'm trying to decide between riding my new road bike on rollers or my old road bike on the salt and sand covered roads.

I usually go on a group ride with a bunch of roadies on Saturday mornings and by group ride, I mean getting dropped by them every now and then.

The weather seems to be cloudy but no precipitation, so going on rides with my fixed buddies would be a better choice for me.

I usually start at Swains Lock (just north of great falls) because it's only a couple miles from my office in Rockville. I did end up putting together a little ride there with a friend for Sunday afternoon.

My teeth rotted out after about 10 seconds of that video.

I was going to do a ride sometime this weekend, but I have a case of malaisiness, so we'll see how that shakes out. Weather isn't helping much.

I ended up forgoing biking today in favor of farming. I moved to a new house in December and i'm trying to get the back garden situated for growing this summer. Outside of biking and being a dick on the forums here, I'm also a horticultural genius.

Tomorrow = C&O canal ride with wife and a friend then a hilariously multicultural afternoon tea with a coworker from Germany, his Chinese wife, and additional colleagues from India, Croatia, and the former Spanish territory of Florida.

Commuted all week, off-day today.

Might go out for a pleasure cruise and knock out some hassle-free miles on the MUP tomorrow. It's about a 48-mile loop.

Friday: Cadence drills on the rollers
Saturday: Road Ride
Sunday: Speed work at the velodrome

Done.

- Reached 196RPM on the rollers :) Yay
- Rode an easy 2+ hours through DC. Got lost for a bit.
- Did my first flying 200s of the season. Booo :( These hurt.

I AM BURNT. I have the leg cramps and muscle spasms to prove it. Nothing but rest and whining tomorrow.

Did the samething that I did the previous 4 weeks, nothing, no riding, no driving, no working. Stuck at home while not being cleared to do anything after having a massive bloodclot in my right leg.

196RPM is epic.
