I need some pads. What are you all wearing? I really want something that is well-ventilated and comfortable for longer rides with extended climbing. Suggestion welcome thanks!

I wear the SixSix One XC Evo pads ($90+ for each pair, elbow and knees) (i.e. http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/19227-536_SSOEX9-1-Clothing-14-Protective-Gear/661-Evo-XC-Lite-Knee-Guards-offer?utm_source=Googlebase&utm_medium=datafeed&utm_campaign=FTP&offer=IN211GLB.htm&zmam=3075515&zmas=1&zmac=30&zmap=536%20SSOEX9).
They were expensive and I don't think any pads are comfortable on longer rides but they're not uncomfortable. I usually throw them in my camelbak then put them on before the descent. Be sure to try them first, I think they run a little big.

If you're budget-conscious, you could probably buy something comparable at a sporting goods store that was made for a more common sport (bicycle stuff tends to be overpriced).

I've got scabby knees too, but I suspect this is a good search to perform in the mountain bike forum...

i got troy lee knee/shin pads that have removeable plastic armored parts. i think they might be a tiny bit cooler and more comfortable than regular knee pads, but i can't really compare since they are the only pads i have ever owned. you can ride with the soft bits on your knees, and add/remove the armored part when things get gnarly, and it takes a bit of the hassle out of wearing/removing pads. i dunno. i hear the 661 pads which harden on impact are good. i'd check mtbr for reviews. people usually put a good deal of thought into product reviews there.
