I just read off the local headlines that firefighters and other officals are talking about the likely hood of radition from fukushima causing rain to be acidic enough to cause cancer/burns.

Anyone worried?

Honestly, I don't think it is high enough to kill us. But it is level 7 in japan right now, Where even keys are being checked for radiation.

Well the acid rain we have in California and Oregon put holes in buildings and kills trees.

I'm just wondering what would happen if it gets worse.

I wouldnt consider firemen authorities on the subject, and admittedly I'm not, but I dont see how that would work.

The US has tested many nukes on home turf and on the Marshall Islands (not too far from Hawaii) and our parents are alive and well. We're all just immune to fall out now

Seriously? I'm not a chemistry student and I'm pretty sure the bomb contained highly enriched Uranium 235...which is pretty different from the low-enriched Uranium Japan is using over there.

A lot of the radioactive material will end up in the ocean, however, thanks to the ocean current, all of those radioactive materials will be travelling around the world and would messed up the pH level very slightly. Food web would be affected, planktons will be tainted. I don't know how much radioactive materials are leaked though.

Overall, don't worry about acid rain over in California, but you should worry about the Pacific Plate moving into the N. American Plate and tripping off the San Andreas fault.

I have some depleted uranium back at the shop, Boss says its from JPL, And that it used to carry enough rad's to kill a human.

if you use your cell phone or stand near a running microwave you are exposing yourself to more radiation than would make it to the us from the fukushima plant

I think it's funny how people here in tokyo worry less about it than the hysteria going on in other countries.

Seriously, ignore the CNN and other news companies that will hype up any little piece of info, look to the science.

I saw a CNN reporter interview some international nuclear scientist and creamed himself when told a particle of cesium had been discovered in CA.

It's sickening.
