Mountain Biking - Urgent help needed on seatpost sizing
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I got my wife a very neat Carrera Alu MTB frame. I need a 30,6 mm seatpost ... odd size it seems. Will a 30,4 mm post work???? Can I use (or turn) a shim and use a"standard" post 27,???mm dia. I have a suspension seatpost that came form my Trek 7200 or I can use the Kalloy post that is on her Nishiki. I am building the components over form her Nishiki. Any help would be appreciated as she keeps on pestering me to finish her bike!!!!

If you have the means to turn down the material (a lathe, mill, etc.) then you could make a shim easily. I'd go with the smaller dia. post (27mm) so you can have plenty of material for the shim itself, and I'd use steel. Roughin' the inside/outside of the shim, and it should hold tight againist the alum frame.

Cut a tin can and use it as a shim :)
