So, I just changed the front brake set up on my commuter. The foam bar tape has been on there for years. Sure enough, it disintegrated upon removal.
I didn't have any extra tape laying around, so, I cut up some old tubes and went to town.
Old tube bar-tape.

I have done this... feels fine and worked great but you should use tubes that have patches on them to really get that green cred.

Feels all right with gloves.
And yes. One side has patches. The other side has LBS donation tubes, that were on the way to the landfill.
i dont see why this wouldn't work
i have often thought it might be fun to try tennis racquet tape or golf club tape as an alternative to regular bartape
I've done it. Cheap way to wrap the bars when you're experimenting with different setups as it is infinitely reusable. Doesn't feel that great so I wouldn't do it as a permanent thing.

You should have saved a few of your longest dreads to wrap your bars with.

Three years in and the bars still look like this... little scuffs can be repaired with a brush and a little shellac.

Just use a half decent brush (don't buy it at the dollar store) and be careful about drips. I haven't had any particular troubles, and paint seems to hate me.

...already have the hockey haircut.
Hochkey tape may cross boundaries from ironic to redundant.
Commuted today, there's no kush. And smelled of sweat and rubber. Even with gloves. But that's usual and not tape related.
...already have the hockey hair...
i've got hockey hair, yes i do, they're giving them to anyone and that means you, you can dive to canada and get one too, and then you'll have hockey hair like i do
Did it o a winter bike. Took care of the wet bartape issue.
