Fifty Plus (50+) - The darkside of Spring

As great as it is to have such beautiful warm weather here in the Southland, it comes with a curse. Pollen!!!!:cry:

I new it was coming but I hadn't seen the clouds of yellow-green dust moving through the air until Sunday's ride in Dublin. It was out in force. And of course, while huffing and puffing up the numerous hills on the ride, it gets breathed in deeply. Today I've had the pleasure of raw sinuses, dry throat and burning eyes. Ah Spring :love: :twitchy::twitchy:

SC as well. Dogwoods are in bloom now. Pines are the worst and we have them everywhere! lol

You know it's bad when the sky turns green.

My red Suburban was green this morning.

I am glad it is spring in Georgia because we had 2 days of it and are now headed back in the deep freeze. Should have to worry about pollen in about a month, I hope.

That tooks like my boat in summer. Birch tree pollen.

Bah.. they're calling for an inch of snow Tuesday night. It should all be gone by Thursday.

At least you don't have to shovel pollen!! :eek:

Looks like everything will be covered in White around here very soon. The weather-dude says to expect a trace to six inches of snow later this week. Spring in the NE comes in "fits and starts".

Our pollen count will start rising in several weeks. I don't envy you folks who suffer from pollen allergies...as long as you have pity on those of us who are still shoveling our way out to the road!! :D

It's coming tonight and it's probably going to be the wet, slushy and heavy stuff too.
It should be around 40F by noon so I think I'll go out for my scheduled hour.

I lost a big oak tree at the end of last summer. Now I only have 20 in my yard. Everything is covered with green oak pollen and chunks of blossoms. You didn't mention the other curse of spring: strong winds. We're supposed to get gusts over 40 today. I'm suggesting that my group ride head south at the start. Wherever we get to, we can just get blown back to the start.

Predicted highs for our area...Wednesday 34F; Thursday 32F; Friday 29F; Saturday 33F; Sunday 35F!

Predicted precipitation over the next thirty six hours....up to 6 inches in the city, up to 12 inches in the Finger Lakes!!

Fortunately I still have the studded winter marathons on "The Beast". :)

If it's not evident, what you're looking at is a mixture of freezing rain and snow, predicted to accumulate up to 3" in the next 36 hours -- headed right your way, cranky old dude!

I wouldn't mind some warmth and pollen instead.

Yeah, it snowed here yesterday. I went for a ride, but it was pretty unpleasant
on the way back, into the wind, with the temp starting to fall.

We expect to get thorough dusting of Cloud Pollen statring just before dawn tomorrow. Could accumulate to as much as six inches, and that's nothing to sneeze at!! :D

In the true spirit of this Spring-time thread and since it is Spring time according to the calandar, I shall now refer to that frozen white stuff that falls from the sky as Cloud Pollen!

I'd always thought of it as dandruff from the skies.

I'd take 6" of plain snow over 3" of ice, slush, and snow any day.

Me & the little lady are bioassays for pollen - we're both crazy allergic. Just riding to work, I'd be streaming eyes, running nose, wheezing... thankful I work in a filtered environment so things calm down until I leave work again. The red maples are just about to burst, mold spores are pretty high too. Break out the inhalable steroids! For me, the bad season only lasts 2 1/2 months in the spring, 3 1/2 in fall. Whoopee!

I know what you mean, my last ride my lungs were screaming at me to stop. Everything is blooming here, even the citrus trees, and we have gads of them everywhere. I have been off the bike for 4 days now and I will do it again tomorrow or die trying.

Started to be a little pollen floating around here in Central Indiana, judging by the mild nasal stuffiness and itching inner canthi of my eyes. I shouldn't complain.

Early springs around the Boston area are usually cold, with frequent rain, freezing rain, ice storms, and snow. We had non-accumulating snow yesterday, with more on tap for tomorrow afternoon into thursday. Probable accumulations in the Worcester hills. That area always gets u-know-what.

Last year, were were gifted with an actual warm spring, albeit a rainy one. Doesn't look like it's gonna happen this year. Heh, May is Bike month. We've had a few where it's just been too bloody cold to ride, at least for this aging one.

I truly envy the people who live in Tucson.
