I have a panasonic villager. I was riding one day and the pedals stopped working. They'll go but they wont pull the chain. They're useless. Does anyone know what happened and how to fix it??? If so please help.....

I was tempted to respond by saying "of course it won't pedal, you have to pedal it yourself" but moving past, I that figure I'll actually try to help.

Crank arms are attached directly to the chainring spider so they turn together. But some designs have the right crank and chainring assembly made in two parts and attached with pressure. These can let go and the remedy is a new right crank.

There's also the possibility that your bike had front freewheel, (when you back pedal the chain doesn't move). If that's the case it might be salvageable with a solvent flush, but the odds are about 3:1 against and you need a new crank. Problem is front freewheel cranks aren't around any more so the repair will be more complicated.

From your post it sounds like this is foreign to you, so step one will be to visit a local shop for a consult.

sound like you need a new freewheel. (the gears on the back wheel ).Take the bike to your LBS and have them switch it out for a new one, part (the new freewheel ) / and labor should be no more $25.

The OP said the chain doesn't move. If that's a correct description, the problem is in the crank, either a dead FF crank, or a failed swage on a 2 piece crank.

To the OP, if the chain turns with the pedals, but the bike doesn't move, then bikeman is right and the freewheel in the back needs replacing
