Bicycle Mechanics - Shimano 10 speed Cassette Spacing

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Someone on another forum made the claim that the spacing between cogs on a Shimano MTB cassette was "slightly" different than on their road cassettes. Fact or fiction? The reason I ask, of course, is that I have an 11-32 shimano 10 speed that I'm shifting with a 10 speed Campy Ergo/Shiftmate/Deore RD setup. Shifting is very good, but not quite what it should be. I have two "risk mitigation" plans, but I thought I'd check on the cog spacing first.

Obviously the spacing is not the same in campagnolo than in shimano. I believe that if you google "shimano 10 speed spacing" you might be able to figure it out.

Shimano 10 speed MTB = Shimano 10 speed "Road". The road and MTB are just marketing terms. Campy, however, is totally different.

Probably the chain. Cog spacing is identical. Dyna-Sys changed the cable pull ratios, therefore a Dyna-Sys RD can't be shifted with a normal Shimano compatible shifter. Maybe that's from where the online confusion sprang.

I'll take Door B - Shimano Road and MTB cassettes have exactly the same cog spacing. FWIW I think the Shiftmate is doing is job, but the combination of Shiftmate and looped cable housing into the RD creates some misalignment/slack that can cause a ghost shift.

You missed the "Shiftmate" part. I'm using the same combination of 10-speed Shimano cassette and Shimano rear derailleur with Campy 10-speed Ergo brifters and a Shiftmate and it shifts beautifully.
