you probably can, but i think it depends on what kind of hub you have. by the way what kind of chain are you using? sounds like a really crappy one

yea it is just a stock one that came with the bike .. third time i hit the rail it broke so i dont really no. some people said just to leave the way it is and buy a really strong chain.. but they dont no for sure.

I'd agree just get a good chain, switching sides would be kinda wierd

None of you have heard of left side drive? you need a left side drive crank set.. haro has them.. profile has left side arms now.. and you need a left side drive hub.. If you gridn right side its just a fine idea.

Well it's not a geared bike, so it will work.

yeah just get a left hand drive hub. primo makes them too. or get a sprocket guard, and a heavier chain, shadow interlocks are the strongest.

if you get a left hand drive hub dont you also need a southpaw freewheel?

You will need a different hub, but if you have splined three-piece cranks, you could turn them around. I wouldn't really recommend it, but it can be done. Probably getting a new left-side drive compatible arm would be a good idea.

Lets take a quick look at www.danscomp.com and see all the parts we need to do this:
1. LSD compatible hub: DK DualDrive - $60.00
2. ACS SouthPaw (14 tooth!) - $17.00
3. BUILDING WHEEL YOURSELF: Free - but you may need new spokes ($8.00 minimum)
Can you just flip your cranks over? Yes, but the way cranks are designed with pedals, the pedals may come loose. This is a pain, but if you carry a wrench with you, use Loctite, and torque those pedals in place, then it may never be an issue. If you do end up getting new cranks:
4. New cranks: Profile LHD - $135.00
Minimum cash: $77.00 - Max: $220.00
Bash guard: About $20.00 and a good chain (KMC 410H) is $10.00 - so $30.00 to go that route.

you say the max is 220 ... i just want to switch sides no bash guard but i will get a new chain ... do you no how much that is?

He listed he KMC 410H at $10 (although I personally prefer the 510HX).

There's a Calculator in the Start Menu's Accessories folder.

Yeah, along with the knowledge of how to lace and true a wheel.

my crank is LSD and RSD compatible but the stock hub was RSD so i had to buy a flip flop, all the bikes my friends have=
if the crank is LSD and RSD then the hub is usually stock (not flip flop)
if the hub is flip flop the crank can only be riddin on one side
i rarely see a LSD and RSD crank matched with a f/f hub when the bike is stock

A flip-flop hub is not a hub that works with both RHD and LHD, it is, however, a hub that allows for the use of a smaller freewheel (13t-15t) than a traditional hub (16t+).

it would really just make more sense to get a bash guard....... or learn how to grind on the left side......

i was stuffin around with an old wheel the other day and i tried to make my old huffy a lsd i took the axle out of the hub and put it in the other way but that didnt work so i took off my freewheel and turned it around the other way and it works alright but makes a clicking sound.

talk about ghetto solutions... :) but to be honest, thats like the smartest and most reasonable thing to do......
CMcMahon

Yeah, too bad that it'll end up with the freewheel unthreading itself.
agreed
(i obviously have nothing better to say)
