I bought a Dawes SST from craigslist but it didnt come with a crankset (bottom bracket is included). What's a good crankset for under $70?

I've never shopped for a crankset before so I don't know what to look for when shopping for one. Will any track crankset fit? Does picking a new crankset affect the chainline?

Thanks.

Eighth Inch is probably your best bet for that price range.

I'll look into that crankset, thanks fellas. Do I need to get a new bottom bracket too or can you replace the crankset without running into other issues?

You could probably find a Sugino RD2 for less than $70 used, I got mine for $50 and it works great

It depends on your spindle type/length. That crankset calls for a 107mm JIS square taper (though I've found that a 103mm will give you a better chainline).

If you don't want to order online,Origin8 cranks are ~$50 and your lbs can get 'em through J&B.

I love my Eighthinch crankset. They have several length and color options as well, if thats what you are into. I got the black 160s

Oh wow this is great find for me! Is the Eighthinch better than the Pake crankset?

Pretty sure Pake and EighthInch cranks are both made by Driveline so they're probably the same thing.

Oh sweet. But EighthInch is cheaper and looks nicer imo, so I'm sold. Not to threadjack, but are Eighthinch cogs trustworthy?

Yes. I've used a bunch of different cogs and EighthInch are among my faves.

My GF and I are both running Eighth Inch cogs. The black coating that is supposedly supposed to prevent rust or something actually doesn't do anything, because it comes off as your cog wears. Still good cogs, though, and I would recommend them.

I just ordered a cog from Scrod's site, as it was only $18 shipped, which is still $6.50 less than the Eighth Inch cogs on eBay. I trust they will perform fine as well.

Is the origin 8 crankset comparable to the Eighth Inch crankset?

lasko makes a lot of these cheap ones. andel makes some of the others, but i think andels are all higher priced now.

my lasko uglim8 is BANGING. best crankset ever for 80 bucks. i love it except for how ugly it is.

Crap, I know this might not be the answer you're looking for. It's $97 shipped however. So $27 over you're budget :(

But it comes with the bottom bracket.

I recommend SRAM S-300 Couriers if you got the spare change.
