Foo - The Rant of the Day......I got to ride a wrecker.

Man, I had a nasty thing happen today. My LF wheel bearing on my truck failed spectacularly. NO warning, it just disintegrated inside the hub. Got positively interesting, I can assure you......I thought I was going to lose the wheel. Luckily, the 4WDhub and spindle both survived, so the repair was ony a couple hundred bucks, counting the wrecker, but it was still a PITA.

I hate breaking down.
The alternator mount on my miata broke on my way to the coast one time. Had to happen in the heart of B.F., Egypt too.
I got lucky and found a real mechanic who manufactured a new mount from parts pulled off of a Snapper Comet mower and charged me twenty bucks. I gave him fifty for getting me on the road before dark.
If he lived a hundred miles closer I'd give use that guy for all my mechanic work.

Something like that happened to my roomie's early 80's F150 at full speed on CA99 out in the central valley somewhere. Actually, I think his manual-locking hubs locked up on him and the axle just kind of melted. Thankfully, that is farm country and there are a bajillion old F150s laying around. I think he got it repaired and his parents drove it to WY, where I'll bet it's still in use.

My front wheel bearings went a couple of months ago and the parts cost $350 a corner, GM's use a combination bearing.hub and sensor unit. Luckily, I didn't need a wrecker to get to the shop.

GM trucks are famous for blowing out front wheel hub bearings.I'm on my third on the left front.

If you hear the wheel squeal slightly you're on your way to hell in a handbasket:thumb:
These 4WD GM trucks are best used only in a tropical climate.

You're lucky if the new anti-lock sensor in the hub lasts 6 months.My advise is unplug the damn thing before it releases your brakes by mistake and sends you over Whistler Mountain.
The after-market bearing hub is $100 at Autozone(Ohio) by the way.I.ve seen this crappy product sell for as much as $400 around here.

Yes I'm ranting but I was almost killed due to GM anti-lock brakes.

I saw the left rear wheel come off a VW bug at about 50 mph one day. The mechanic that did the brake job on it the day before must have forgotten the cotter pin that held everything together, and the wheel just came off while she was driving down the road. Interesting from my perspective, but I think the girl driving needed a change of underwear when she got home.
