Northern California - East Bay Swap Meet - April 3 (Sun)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The Valley Spokesmen club will hold its annual swap meet on the day after the Cinderella ride - Sunday April 3rd from 1-4pm. This event is free for both buyers and sellers and we generally have some free refreshments left over from the ride as well as extra food items for sale. We also have a club ride starting at the same site at 10am and riding through Sunol, Niles Canyon, and Palomares before ending at the swap meet. Come on out for the ride, swap meet, or both.

Giant Bay Area Bicycle Swap Meet
Space and admission is free.
Village Parkway and Brighton Drive in Dublin

Take I-680 North or South, exit Alcosta Blvd, go East to Village Parkway,
turn right, then a U-turn at Brighton to the
parking lot on your right at Dublin High School
or proceed on Brighton to another lot on your left.

Come and swap, sell & buy everything for bicycles.

Anyone know if this is worth going to???

How many sellers normally?

I don't want to go if it will be too small.

No. It's not. Stay away. Don't waste your time.

It's pretty informal - the club provides the space and tables and everyone is free to set up their own things. I'd guess that typically there are about 30 - 50 people selling things. I've never sold stuff there but have picked up some good bargains. Got my Cannondale there a few years ago and got some pedals, a saddle, and a rack bag last year.

Oh in that case, I'll go and bring a big wad of cash so I can buy a bunch of obsolete De Rosas and then set them on fire.

Seriously, this time :)

It is a smallish but worthwhile swap meet to attend. Put on by the Valley Spokesmen, it occurs the day after their signature Cinderella ride (which I will be SAG'ing). Vendor count is hit or miss, but usually a decent showing - 40 or so? The real highlight is free lunch, courtesy of ride support leftovers.

As far as deals - sometimes I leave with a pile of swag, sometimes empty-handed. You never know. You will see whole bikes, frames, old parts, and usually lots of used cycling clothing to pick though. If you're close by, it's worth a look. The El Sobrante Pedaler usually has a nice swap on the same day, so if you're closer to that it is worth a look, too.

P.S. Every De Rosa you burn makes mine more valuable. Burn as many as you can afford. :)

Thanks for the info. I might check it out.

I'll be there if anybody wants to tool around on bikes or something.

I finally got my license, which makes this much more doable for me. Scary, huh?

I'll be sure to stay off the streets that day. :)

I hope to see you guys there today. Looks like The Pedaler's swap meet is next week, 4/10. I'm going to that too.

It was a great swap meet for me, even if I had to pass on a DellaSanta due to no room on my bike rack! and a Paramount, but at least that one was not my size :D

 That is simply not an acceptable excuse. For a Della Santa in your size at a decent price, you should have held it with one arm while you rode (or drove) away. It is always, always, always about n+1. Sheesh, have I taught you people nothing?

I picked up a really nice Ciocc. Even went to the guy's house to close the deal!

It was also priced on the higher end.. and I have a full chrome Somec in the works.

Rich,

This is the Della Santa I told you about several months ago. The guy is stuck on a price, and that's that. Chris, I've been working this guy for months... he's a retired cop, and he won't budge off of what he wants. If he did, that bike would have been mine at the end of last summer.

Sounds sketchy.

Very much so. Especially if the check bounces. :D

he was asking 1300.00 at the end of the show from 1500.00 at the start definitely no upside potential there. Besides I really think the Somec will be special when it's done anyway.

The last two Della Santa frame sets I passed on went in the $700-$800 range. I'd pay that for the frame set in question, but have no use for the old Dura Ace stuff on it. So far, I have been unsuccessful in trying to get him to strip the frame down and sell it to me.

It's good to see he's finally moved off of $1500. Maybe I'll give him a call.....

If it bounces, my wife is to blame. She does the banking. :)

Now that you mention that - there was a guy at the swap meet who I always seemed to end up next to and had to run and get his wife because she holds the money, apparently.

Darn, what a shame, I'm stuck down here in socal with doctoral obligations.... otherwise it would've been a quick 10 minute drive for me there....

As for swap meets, there are always surprises that make it worthwhile. :thumb:

Where can I find some more info on this? (Location, Time) Maybe I'll make the drive if it's worthwhile.

True...though I managed to get some parts that I needed for a build :o, just not at a supah dupah buyer friendly swapmeet-like price. It was more ebaylike in price :( There only one or two parts that I got at a good price.

I ended up not going, sounds like a good decision.
