I'd like to try my hand at building a 1" quill road stem for 26.0mm bars. Assuming my materials will be 4130 tubing (most likely from Aircraft Spruce), what OD and wall thicknesses would I use for the quill and clamp? I found a few NOS Salsa stem caps, bolts and wedges that I'll be using. I remember somebody posting what they've used before, but couldn't find it using the search.

Thanks,

Pete

I like BikePro's (http://www.bikepro.com/products/stems/salsa.html) section on stems, they give a lot of useful dimensions (for bikes nerds, anyway). For a road stem Salsa (and others) use 7/8x0.065. Depending if your caps are from a road or MTB stem they might not fit that tube I guess? For the clamp, 1-1/8x0.058 or 0.049 should work.

Thanks, Tuz. The Salsa hardware has a silver top cap, which I believe was for road stems.
