hi all,

just got a nice dura ace set at a great deal from a friend, but blanked on checking the caliper reach- 4 mm too short for my 700s, as usual... i'd still like to use the set, and talked with my old LBS about fabricating a simple drop bolt since the ones i found online are 75 bucks apiece. any ideas?

You can make one out of aluminum. I have seen it on Sheldon Brown's web site. may not be as pretty as the 75 dollar drop, but just as functional.

Drop bolts are such a kludgy fix. Maybe you can find offset pads?

Or shape some pads to suit. May not leave you with much to brake with, though... and it minimises the leverage.

Not much of a problem with the rear, but for the front, you could stick on some tighter forks (steepening the head angle a tad).

Drop bolts were suitable in single pivot brakes, they held the return spring, as well .
the current dual pivot would be a different matter..
without shop resources to machine something clever, look for a longer reach brake.
