I think pedestrians make the best emergency brakes:

True, the spandex reduces the friction coefficient, but if you get enough of 'em...

those are some NICE lookin' cantis....any idea what brand they are?

also, WTF? are you running a 650c wheel in a 700c fork? HOLY TIRE CLEARANCE, BATMAN!

perhaps it is an older fork meant for 27 inch wheels...my fork is like that too, i couldnt find any modern brake long enough to reach the rim, which is why i now rely on small children and cab bumpers to stop in emergencies

No, they aren't marked, and they came on a bike I bought a few years ago. they are pretty nice, with titanium hardware. I was kind of hoping someone here might have a guess. they don't use the 3 holes that canti mounts have for the spring, it's adjusted via those 13mm flats behind the pivot bolt.

Naw, 700x23c. The fork is what came with a first generation gunnar street dog (the one with the canti mounts), I think it is actually a waterford cross fork. I think you could run at least 700x45c with this fork, I've run 700x38c plus fenders with plenty of clearance

Jeez, I mean, its already butt-uglified with some pink anodized cantis, you may as well just put a damn lever and cable on it.

What about the old sneaker-against-the-back-wheel brake, so popular with the kids?

This was mine...the car, not the fat-ass cop.

The bike is in a transitional phase. right now: lever and brake, but no cable.

I knew a few people who had old school emergency brakes in the form of thick pieces of leather on the palm of their gloves. You can then plam the tire to have a pretty effective front brake.

Can also do the shoe against the back tire but its much harder to stop quickly and good shoes are a lot more expensive than brake pads.

Yeah, I'd like to see HIM chase down a thief or a ******.

i *think* those may be old Critical Racing brakes. from the mid 90's cnc heydays.

just wait til you grab blindly for that cable and hit the spokes on the wrong side of the wheel...

...or in a very guro moment totally sever a few of your fingers pulling on the cable in panic mode

I've looked at this three times, and every time I've practically spit on my keyboard with laughter...it's sick, it's wrong, it's so funny...

I like to use the anchor in emergency situations and the grappling hook for some fancy turnin'.

A leg also works, but this is what it does to your front wheel and fork...
