I've subscribed for Bicycling for a few years now and I like the articles, and the ads. Equipment reviews every issue. I especially liked their issue a few months ago about "Americas' Best Descents"

It depends on what you are looking for. For training tips and things about parts and bikes, then bicycling is probably the best. If you want racing coverage then Velonews or CycleSport or Pro Cycling are the best.

I find Bicyling lacking in content, but for starters its great. Your best bet if bikeforums and other web resources.

I find Bicyling lacking in content, but for starters its great. Your best bet if bikeforums and other web resources.
+1 Somehow I got a free (but still unsolicited and unwanted) 6-month subscription to Bicycling and aside from the slick pictures and color ads, the writing and content was trite & stale.
I think I learned one thing from those six issues that I didn't already know, but now I can't remember what it was.
Be it bicycles or porn, why bother with printed magazines? The internet has everything a magazine has, plus infinite links to anything remotely related.
Haha--I remember when we were kids, we had stashes of dirty magazines carefully hidden and dearly purchased through illicit and highly circuitous means. But these kids today live like Emperor Nero with their internet porn: "I tire of these breasts, take them away![clap-clap] Now bring me only the left ones. [clap-clap]"

Cycle Sport America is my favorite; excellent photos and writers with a sense of humor. Not cheap, true, but well worth the price in my opinion.

another for Bike Action. For years I subscribed to Mountain Bike Action until and learned a ton as a newbie. It was very informative and always wished they would do a road version.
I used to subcribe to Bicycling but too much time was spent on articles on places I was never going to visit to ride in. Never enough technical information.
