Since pants are a requirement for warmth and on signs at many stores, I need to figure out what I need.

I hate jeans. I find them very uncomfortable, heavy, and sloppy.

I hate cargo pants. I find them annoying and give an even sloppier appearance than jeans.

So, for the past 12 years or so, I have been wearing khaki pants, like Dockers or cheaper versions. I wear these pants for everything except when I change the oil. That is the only time I wear jeans. It also works out because then I am always dressed at least casually and never have to worry about my attire vs. where I am going (but see next paragraph).

But, there are problems with my pants. I snag them every time I get the kids out of the car. They seem to get dirt stains on them just from walking through the air. I go through about 14 pairs a year.

Obviously, this is all very stupid.

But, again, I hate jeans and I hate cargo pants.

So, are there any other options left? :crash:

Carhartt work pants. $35 at Sears.

As long as they are long enough to hide your chicken legs any material will do for us. :D You might want to check out a wool polyester blend semi dress style of trousers, then you could get a dark colour to help hide the dirt problem. Come to think of it, check out a uniform store for pants as they have a goodly assortment of dfferent materials and styles you might find something you like in a tough wearing material.

I have always wanted an excuse to get a kilt...that, plus my new interest in Celtic guitar playing, and I should be all set. Hmmm...

They do make dockers in dark colors to hide the stains.

But, I prefer Dickies Slim Straight work pants because they dry faster. Red Kap Jean Cut Pant and Cell Phone Pocket pants are pretty nice too.

I go through about 14 pairs a year.I my younger days when learning to work on cars, I would wear dress-pants, button-up white shirt and nytrile gloves. I did go through quite a few pants and shirts, but it taught be to be economical and precise with my motions. I got to the point where only the gloves were dirty.

If you can't figure out the movements and motions that stain your clothes, go for vinyl pants.

Good idea. It'll solve the problem snagging the pants on the car ... may lead to some other problems though ...

You boys live in cold climates so spray those cheeks with cooking oil to avoid sticking to anything you sit on.

Work slacks by Dickie, Carhart, or Oshkosh. Your local Mills Fleet farm will have them.

I usually wear convertible pants-- Campmor, North Face, Patagonia, or REI. I also stain khakis every time I wear them, but at least it comes out of the convertibles better. I also have a couple of pairs of BDUs. :)

Urban camouflage designer sweats. No elastic gathers at the ankles, front pockets, and stains will blend right in.

Wow, some really good ideas here!

Stop making me laugh, though...with this horrible back pain I have this week, it hurts too much to laugh. I don't want to have to give up FOO for a while!

find yourself some dickies. Not too expensive and tough enough for whatever.

That or just wear some cycling leg warmers around. Better than assless chaps because you have easy access when you have to do #1 as well as #2.

on the topic of pants, what works well for business casual in hot and possibly humid weather?I like silk or silk-blend pants for hot & humid weather. They tend to be lightweight. Or linen pants. However those need to be ironed all the time.

I was told recently that I was "doing it wrong" when it came to short pants. In my island, it is hot. People like short pants. These come in 2 varieties, "short pants" and "bermudas". The later goes down to the knee, the other one is shorter. Both men and women use them.

Well... apparently over-heah the "short" variety is reserved for woman and is called "hooshi pants" or something like it. Men shall no wear them... manly men at least.

Right now with your location you need Carhart thermal lined bib overalls or you will die overnight.

That is all....thank you

It's a poor island economicly Rubenslayer so those shorts on all the men are really the long pants they wore years ago as kids.

Due to lack of time to go shopping and try on pants, my wife picked up a pair of jeans for me one day. I hate them, but at least I don't ruin them the first time I wear them while chasing kids and getting them into car seats where I lean against the car and snag them. But no one cares if I walk around the house without pants on--not even my frequently-visiting in-laws--so I don't wear them (or anything) any more than I must. :D
