At a cx race last Sunday I saw two carbon seat posts break!!!
One was an A racer who broke it with in the first 10 minutes and was standing up for the rest of the race. I think I will stick to AL or TI for seat posts. Anyone else?
I just don't see how a properly designed carbon fiber seatpost could just break. What brands?

I don't know what brands but believe me it happened. I was just guessing that with all the bouncing around and mounting/dismounting that the carbon was too brittle? You could see the pointed edges of the post like it was a brittle fracture if you know what I mean.

Could be the edge on the seat tube concentrated too much force for the carbon to handle? Which way did they break? (like backwards, front, or sideways)

I've seen it where the bike is bouncing on the remount and the rider hit the seat on the back end of it. SNAP! No more seatpost...

Definitely stick to Ti for a X seatpost. Fairly light, extremely strong. Damps some vibration. If you're a weight weenie USE makes one that is approximately 155 grams. I go with the Dean post myself. They are made in the USA and they stand by their products for life.

Just a follow up. The story: http://www.fastcoaching.com/ first paragraph says it all.

Oh sorry about that
That site uses frames though it does not look like it. This is the page out side of the frames page:
