just wondering does a tire size need to equal wheel size?...like does a 26x1.75 size tire need a 26x1.75 size wheel or can you go +/-.50 in width?

Hi, there's a chart near the bottom of this page http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html which shows tyre and rim size combinations which work.

It looks like you can go quite a bit wider than the rim width.

Tire sizing can be very confusing if you aren't familiar with it. Reading the tire article posted above should help.

You can probably run a 26x1.75" tire on just about and 26" MTB rim. The very narrow or very wide sizes are the only places you run into trouble.
