I have this Shimano 600 rear derailleur. The kind with the bolt on the INSIDE of the derailleur. I know, odd, I don't see to many of those around and I have 2 of them!!

Anyway, want to do hilly century with my vintage and I don't wanna swap my compact crankset with it. I'd rather get a 13-28 freewheel from IRD.

Anyone know if the short cage will work on the 28 or do I need a different derailleur?

I hope it does! i just put a 13-28 with a RD-6401 on my Colnago sport. Haven't setup the chain yet and can't check as I don't have my shifters yet!

I imagine if your chain is long enough you should be okay.

28 is fine with any 6400 series RD. The Shimano 14/28 freewheels work pretty well, too...
