BMX - Couple of questions about a Diamondback I just bought.

New to the forum but, I've have been surfing on it for a little while now. Just picked up a Diamondback Assualt haven't been into BMX's for about 14 years. So I just thought I grab one from Craigslist on the cheap, which I did today. A few questions, I bought it for 45 bucks was wondering if it's worth much else then that also what would you guys suggest should be my first upgrade or if it's worthy of upgrading at all. I'm not looking to do crazy stunts or jumps mostly small trick and biking around not so far distances. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Do not upgrade that bike, resell it on craigslist and get something better. Or ride it into the ground.

I would agree to save your money and buy a bike suited to your purpose instead of trying to upgrade that bike.

If you have been out of BMX for 14 years, you either quit really early or you have to be in your mid to late twenties or early thirties. You might want to consider a complete 24" bike. Hit some of local bike shops to get a feel for what is out there, test ride a few new bikes. If there is a track or park near you, head out there and see what the folks are riding. Whenever I take my sons to the BMX park I talk to some of the older riders about their rigs, as I still plan to get something to ride with the boys other than my old Trek mtb.

jsharr thanks for the link. And yeah your about right in your assessment, I'm 31. I never got to serious about BMX riding I just enjoy fooling around on them doing wheelies bunny hoops and the like, simple tricks. I think i'll bang on this for awhile and see If I still really enjoy it and if I do i'll upgrade to something more well suited to me.

I cleaned the bike up yesterday. Took off all the surface rust (which was little), oiled the chain and bought a new back brake cable for it. I might repack the crank as well. That's about all I'm going to spend on it. Elbow grease and a 1.99 brake cable.
