Tandem Cycling - Fast Campy Right Shifter Wearout - Tandem

I'm about to rebuild or have rebuilt my R/H Campy Chorus 10 spd shifter. The G-spring is apparently shot after about 5700 miles. Actually, this isn't a surprise considering Branford indicates that 10K-15K miles is normal and I shift the RD much more than I would on a single - at least 2X. The likely parts, G-spring and a few other bits are not expensive, but don't be surprised if you start experiencing shifting problems earlier than expected. My symptom is a weak shift up from my 11t cog, sometimes not shifting sometimes double shifting; this is apparently classic for a weak G-spring. Wouldn't trade these shifters, however, as I think the ergonomics are really right for a tandem.

interesting, we have the same setup and occasionally have an 11 shift, pause, I call it but we have only a couple grand on the bike. Have to agree, love campy feel.

My LBS (Crank-2 in Pleasanton, CA) is going to take a look-see and thinks it might be the RD adjustment, but I'm pretty handy and my really local wrench (Crank-2 is 70 miles away) came to the shifter problem conclusion independently. I'll report here what we find. Most of the 5700 miles I was using the shifter as a 9 speed with the daVinci-modified SRAM X.9 RD. It's only recently that I converted over to 10 speed.

Just to top off this thread - After not being able to get my hybrid Campy/Shimano/Shiftmate setup working in the smaller cogs I took the right hand shifter into the LBS. Turns out the G-spring carrier is cracked which explains the shift problems I've been having. I probably have the alloy version which is apparently more prone to cracking than the new composite part. I'll edit this post when I have everything back together, but I'm sure looking forward to getting crisp shifting back.

Shimano 9 speed barcons: so far 30,000+ miles on them without any issues.
Originally specced Dura Ace 9 speed brifters, but got rid of them after 3,000 miles as the front der was too cantakerous.
