Foo - Cafe Bustello / Thanks RubenX

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
So in a recent RubenX thread, there was a pic that had Cafe Bustello coffee in the background or some such. Whatever the coffee brand was in the pic, Ruben and another of our Puerto Rican members began discussing Cafe Bustello coffee.
Not long thereafter, I was persuing the coffee section at the grocery store and saw Cafe Bustello. Did not buy it at the time, but mentioned it to the wife. This week, she brought a can home.
Totally different drink than my everyday bean, which is Dunkin Donuts original on most mornings. Much darker roast and seems to be PACKED with caffeine. Just had a travel mug of the stuff and I am hopping around like a jsharr on Cafe Bustello.
Thanks RubenX, wherever you are, which I assume is on the kitchen counter, rebuilding a gearbox, or in the bathtub, rewiring a car radio to make it control your kids Xbox.

Hey, where did Ruben go?
My guess is that there's a woman to blame for his absence ;-)

I second this guess. All in favor say Aye ye ye.

Better a woman than a terrible kitchen auto-maintenance accident.

Cafe Bustelo is totally where it's at. Sorry to diss your regular brew, but I have never found Dunkin' products to be any good.
We brew home mixed half-caf Cafe Bustelo in our house.
All that and it's cheap, too!!!
I find the caffeine content (full strength) to be less than starbucks drip coffee.
My roommate used to drink that all the time, tasted fine and it cost less than some other store brands.

If that's the same cafe we were drinking in Cancun I can see why you like it so much. I've got to find some, I found I was drinking more coffee when I got home to stay awake. Maybe that will help me move faster now.

I got it at Tom Thumb here in Texas. That is a Safeway owned store that used to be a regional family chain. Might try Safeway brand store, Dominicks in your area I believe.

I've heard good things but it doesnt come in whole beans at my store.
WAIT! that site has a Supreme Espresso whole bean for $7.56 per pound?
you all realize that if you try this coffee and like it, you are indebted to Ruben, should he ever return. His last post was on 03/04/11 at 10 PM in a thread about a video game he found for his 4 year old daughter. Perhaps they are gaming and got distracted, for a month or so.

But usually a one-month gaming binge is fueled by mountain dew and hot pockets, not coffee. It must be good stuff!
I don't think my family has ever had anything other than Bustelo. My father would have some before work, after work, before and after dinner and sometimes before he went to bed. If they had made an IV drip of Bustelo, he would have signed up for that too. It has become my default coffee as well.

The life of a "playa" is plagued with turmoil and tribulations.

Thanks. There's a Mexican grocery store in town I'm going to go to when I go look for it. It's about a block away from the library, and I need to go there to get some tax forms. I'd probably have to java now if I didn't associate getting the coffee with getting the tax forms.

I find it more in some local grocery stores that stock up more on Puerto Rican foods (yum) - I think I need to go get some this weekend!

That was around the time he was asking for advice on heaters too, I wonder if he's hibernating now waiting for it to warm up in south Florida?

Or did he immolate himself playing with propane heaters in a confined space while working on his Hyundai?

I got some instant at the Mexican grocery store earlier today. They had ground decaf and instant regular, so I took the regular. It's close, but isn't as good as the ground stuff we had in Mexico.

I had to go to the store and decided to pick up a can. That's some pretty good coffee.

Medaglia D'Oro is also pretty darn good too.
Drinking Bustelo today. Find I can actually cut back on the amount of grounds I use based on strength. Even the wife liked the pot I made this AM.

I drank a bunch yesterday, and still managed to get to sleep last night. Welcome back Ruben! I'm sure there are a few stories you can tell about where you'e been - as well as a bunch you can't tell here!
