k I've posted this in the road cycling part of the forums but I wanted to see what you fellow triathlets had to say
I'm 14 and have been doing triathlon for about nine months. I was wondering if some of u guys could give me a few ideas on a first bike purchase (bikes, shoes ... within a reasonable price range) this past summer i rode a 1980's miele road bike and decided to make the change so right now I'm gatherin up info

Any ideas or opinions?? If you could please include prices (Canadian if possble EH?)

I guess, first a couple of questions about yourself?
How tall are you now and how tall do you expect to get?
How much is too much, many good bikes can be had for under 500.
How much riding do you do and what do you want to get out of the bike?

At about 16 I bought a used Cannondale for 450 from a local lady. It got me going on the right track. I guess it depends on what you're looking for.
I thought these looked like good entry level bikes but then again I don't know how great IBEX is as a brand...

The sizing on these is a little sketchy but 330 or 500 for the components isn't bad.

Either way, reply with anything you've looked at and also check out the under $700 thread on the road Bike forum

I would not spend a lot of money. At your age you will probably out grow a bike every year.

Like the others are saying, you will probably have to replace everything you buy just for growing out of that size. Helmet, shoes, bike, wetsuit, etc. Unless you have a rich uncle, buy used or inexpensive gear. If you can find a decent older bike, you may be able to sell for what you have into it when you outgrow the bike. Save your money for when you stop growing. By that time, you will know exactly what you want.

Check out a few shops. Most are having sales on '04 models now.
