Hi all,

I've been following a small work shop in Mexico city that started selling Bamboo fixies, basically the guy took a workshop in France on bamboo and upon returning to Mexico wanted to buy a bike; so he said what the hell and built one himself with the knowledge gained at the workshop.

The bike:

The shop:

Naturally, I've found it very very interesting but I was put off by the initial price until after contacting them via FB I was informed there was a cheaper version coming out, one I could afford. The guy invited me over to the shop to test ride it and everything, seems pretty nice.

The creator is the one on the left:

I'd like to state I'm in no way affiliated with this, I've actually thought they were ridiculous at first because of the pricing but I guess they're realizing now that they are working in a third world country and steep prices aren't gonna work out too well. The thing is, I don't live in Mexico city but I could go I guess it's kinda near. The one thing that puts me off is the geometry, what's up with the sloping seat tube? I imagine toe overlap is gonna be a PITA.

Here's the site: http://bamboocycles.com/

So, what do you think? Would you buy it/ride it? I thought the "eco" aspect is just bad ass. "hey dude what are you riding?! freaking bamboo?" yeah!!

I think they're coasties.... just look at the video on their intro page.

Yeah, they use the coastie a lot but also sell the fixed gear and with no brakes or foot retention as you said. Also, in none of their videos do they use a helmet. Stupid as hell but I guess they think it's hella cool. Sigh.

Cool, good for them. Do they have to use that fugly curved seat tube?

Was interested until I saw they sell the black bike under the name "Negro."
I obviously won't give my money to a racist organization.

The idea is cool in concept. But damn! They're ugly as can be and cost way more than I'd be willing to fork over for one.

The frame costs the equivalent of $400 here, but I am guessing it will get lower with time. They say they produce just 10 a month so that's probably why...

I like how the prices on the 'English' site are significantly more..

They say it includes shipping and everything but yeah they're overinflated IMO. :(

There are 100's of tutorials on making bamboo frames online. You can guild the whole thing yourself to any dimensions you need for under $200. I plan to make one when I have $200 spare, but that could be a while. Even if I fail it's worth the adventure of trying
