A driver who fatally struck a bicyclist and escaped arrest for nearly three years violated his probation by getting behind the wheel this summer, just weeks after his release from jail.

...further....

Nicholson, who was held at the Worcester House of Correction on $25,000 cash bail, pleaded guilty on May 27 to leaving the scene of an accident, personal injury or death resulting and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. A motor vehicle homicide charge was dismissed. Sentenced to two years in the House of Correction, with six months to be served and the balance suspended, Nicholson was released shortly afterward and banned from driving.

--my comment--

Reading article after article like this, I see why idiots leave the scene after killing bicyclist knowing they aren't going to get much prison time. This guy hid for 3 years!!!! Only got 6 months!! I think any hit and run that results in death should be automatic 2nd degree murder with 20 years minimum. So many hit and run stories involving bicyclist getting killed. Sad.

Sorry, he got sentenced for six months but served far less than that. Sentenced in May, out weeks prior to October. Pathetic.

Someone should hit him and run.

I've said this before and I'll keep saying it. In America, the justice system is so warped that the absolute easiest way to kill someone you don't like is to run them over in your car, claim the sun got in your eyes, gas got stuck, spilled hot coffee on my groin, had to drive frozen lung to hospital for transplant ASAP.

You're absolutely right. It happens again and again. It's amazing that I could kill someone with my car and essentially get off but if I shoot someone with a gun or use some other method, I go to jail for a long time. Could you imagine someone using the excuse that the sun was in my eyes after they shot someone? Or I was reaching to change the radio station? etc.

My wife reckons that the best murder weapon would be an icicle, which is why I get suspicious whenever she suggests visiting Canada for Christmas.

I thing the best life insurance is not to have any :D Then it makes sense for them to look after you & keep you operational for as long as they can!

Oh god, she's onto you. I'd sleep in separate beds if I were you.

You have kids? Have one of em pedal your bike out the drive way to make sure the brakes work and everything.

But that doesn't mean we can get away with murder, literally.
