I still use an old coffee can. Its contents go towards my one (sometimes two) week-long tours/yr. Usually amounts to ~$150. The can was originally decorated by my sis with construction paper and a Barbie washer/dryer. It was her not-so-subtle way of telling me to save up for a washer/dryer. (I had been creepy laundromat guy for far too long) When filled that can's contents more than paid for a nice used set that's still in use today.

I keep a can where I throw in my pocket change at the end of the day. In 2-3 months I take it to the store to one of those coin counting machines and always walk out with 150 to 200 dollars. It's my emergency money.

My wife keeps her change in her grandmother's old half-gallon gin bottle (one of the old ones, I gather she went through one every week or two...) I keep mine in my grandfather's old cigarette box.

So my sister gave me all the pennies she had been hoarding in a big-ass can. Came to $300.00+. That kept me in grocaeries. Turns out she had thrown away an even larger ammo can full! All the while pleading poverty.

i totaled everything ~202
got some half dollars and one dollar coins. but i wanna keep those.

My mother has a 5 gallon jug full of pennies. I'm afraid to try to pick it up.

I have a coworker who doesn't like change. Always leaves it on the machine at work which doesn't take pennies. I take it and use it at the grocery store - the self serve machine takes it. Would feel weird giving it to a cashier and then paying the rest on debit.

Other than laundry, I hardly ever have cash.

Yep - I have a big plastic rice container - and I've been known to get a good $50 plus out of it when I cash it in on the machine - and that's not too many quarters in there either (use them for laundry). I look at this cash as "extra" - which means the previous week's groceries (I purchase 2-3 weeks at a time - plus I was expecting a Couch delivery) of @ $110, less coupons and other bulk savings took this to $89 and LESS my coins of $46 meant my stocking up groceries - my grocery costs was $43. Yay!!!

If someone here cashed in a bunch of pennies and knew what size container they had, I would be interested in knowing how many pennies would fit in a gallon, or whatever you have.

I keep pennies in a large mayonaise jar that I cleaned out and recycled. I'm not going to go through them until the jar is FULL. Then I'll cash them in. I also have a similar jar for dimes.

File a complaint and they'll probably give you a refund. I've received refunds after the commuter train ticket machines screwed up down here.
