Mid-sixties temperatures solicited a timely call from stoker #1 to enjoy a fall afternoon! I rushed around like mad to get home, gather my cycling stuff and load the tandem… but was more than pleasantly rewarded with wonderful ride! I hope everyone is getting a chance to get out.

I tell you, Galen, you sure do get in some nice rides over there in MD. As for us, I've traded in my tandem and started building an ark. It's rained for two weeks straight; a rather unusual occurance for Utah. Maybe that'll mean that next summer won't be so dry.
Here's a stoker's-eye view of our ride through Amish country south of Iowa City last Saturday. Beautiful sky, perfect temperature, although the wind was around 20 mph with higher gusts...really cut down the speed and handling on the way out. This spot was almost the only section of the ride that was otherwise more like a rollercoaster.
BTW, I learned another one of those "stoker's never wrong" examples...I forgot to tell her that she needed to tell me when she decided to stand going up a hill. It was her first try and she came unclipped from one pedal and nearly dumped us...but we were only going about 5 mph uphill at the time.

I'm thinking about putting big balloon tyres on and getting a pair of oars this year

Nice photo tornadobass! and a nice jersey.... can I get one?
The jersey is a retro-style design by Marilena...an Italian brand that I found on clearance at Bike Nashbar. They still have some left, but maybe not in your size or color or sleeve length...do you look good in pink?. We also have one of the blue Marilena short sleeve jerseys. They're fun and different! Look here: http://www.nashbar.com/results.cfm?brand=5218&init=y
I didn't mention it, but that photo is currently my screen background on the laptop...I love looking at the long road ahead and the possibility of taking a right turn...we have 1.5" tires :-)
