Foo - I h8 when I do this...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
My office moved to a a pricier neighborhood last fall so now a basic lunch (sandwich, drink, no chips, etc.) is $10+. I realized I would be broke unless I started brown bagging it so the last few Sundays I've been buying a week's worth of turkey burgers, cooking them up and bringing them in Monday morning. Only $8 for the week, plus a few extra bucks for bread or buns, and I usually bring some fruit in too.
Last night I had a million things to do (laundry, ironing, bike maintenance, scanning in some photos I just took, getting our taxes ready to mail out, etc.)...I managed to cook the burgers and put them aside to cool before putting them in the fridge overnight, as I always do.
This morning, I woke up, went to get my tea and saw the plate still on the counter...there goes a week's worth of lunch. Plus now I am starving.
Do you kick yourself when you make stupid mistakes like this? I realize in the big picture this is nothing. Two of my riding buddies got hit by a car Saturday (They were bruised and shaken up but appear to be okay, thank God; both bikes were totaled)...if not for a sprained ankle I would have been right there with them. Still, I have a hard time letting go...I am guessing Freud's anal theory factors in here somehow.
I do indeed greatly dislike it when I plan a nice nutrious lunch and then forget to bring it to work with me. One thing I have started doing is using the kitchen timer as a reminder to do something. If I am letting my oats cook for 30 minutes, I will set the timer to go off in 10 min as a reminder to check them and stir them. I do this two times and then take them off the heat and reset teh timer a third time to remind me to put them in the fridge after cooling. You owe me $24 for that tip.

LOL. That is a good tip. I made all sorts of mental notes on the way in to work on how to avoid forgetting. I definitely love bringing in lunch, just need to get better at it.
On another note, I was watching "Pawn Stars" the other day and thought of you, Jsharr - some dude was selling a Native American vest; they called in an appraiser and one of the ways he authenticated it was by checking the bead work. He said beads were very important in trading and to convey social status for the Native Americans.
I am not sure how the rest of the episode turned out, however. It was a beautiful day and I decided to go out and fire up the Jet Ski.
Not the one you took off my hands for that bag of beads and the awesome hair comb? You got it running? How?

I bring breakfast and lunch to work. I've been having cereal with fruit for breakfast lately. I remembered to pack the fruit and my little container of soy milk in the insulated cooler with my lunch. I got to work today and realized I forgot to pack the cereal. I trudged to the cafeteria and spent $2 for a little box of cereal.

I like this. I've also started putting reminders in my phone's calendar for basic things.
Pawn Stars is interesting... but Antiques Roadshow is where it's at. Don't get me started on American Pickers...

Oh, too funny - last night my wife asked whether we should watch PS or Pickers - I told her I kinda hated Pickers. The whole concept and process is so predatory. The skinny tall guy with the hair is particularly obnoxious. I also get sad seeing the compulsive hoarding in some homes.
Pawn Stars is also kind of obnoxious, but good for a mild laugh in spots, and I do love the appraisals the experts do.
In the end we wound up channel surfing and finding Antiques Roadshow...we used to love watching that years ago...it seems so tame now, compared to all these high-anxiety 'reality' shows.

I primed it with donkey punch

exactly...I am trying my best to avoid paying $10 for lunch today, which will just add insult to injury.
I had some yogurt stashed here (I stocked up at the half-price sale last week; 99 cents each, the local delis charge nearly three bucks!) and I grabbed an apple and a protein bar on my way out the door (the turkey burgers are now cat food; I sure hope the kittehs appreciate my blunder).

You are better at this than I am. I'll pack a lunch, then not be in the mood for that particular sandwich or whatever. So I go and spend the money anyway. :(
dang!
I ate my apple, etc and actually feel pretty full; since my ankle is starting to hurt, I figured I'd go get a Snapple to wash down some motrin. $2.45!! for a freakin' 16 oz. Iced tea. :twitchy:
I guess I'm drinking tap water here from now on (no water cooler in the new office).
The little vest was a fake.
Luckily, if I forget lunch, I only live 4 miles from work so I can come home.
There's another appraisal show on Discovery called Oddities. I've only seen it once but it was pretty interesting.

I've done this on rare occasions. If I decide I want to buy something, I either save the lunch for the next day or eat it for dinner when I get home.
ugh I spent 45 mins melting on line at the post office at lunch...(heat on full blast, self-serve machine broken, only two clerks for a long line...) Then I realized I was starving, so I blew $8 bucks on a sandwich and a free soup. *sigh*
On the plus side, my taxes have been filed and the lunch was delicious.
the sandwich was only $1.50 and they stuck you $6.50 for a bowl of soup. just so you know.
Wack-Arnolds $1 menu for you homeslice(bring your own Kool Aid drink).

It's only money and there's plenty more of it out there... :innocent:

If those turkey burgers were bacon...you would've never forgotten them. Just sayin'.

I used to be really bad for forgetting things until I started doing this a few years ago.
My friends laugh at me for having silly reminders for things but it keeps me upto date.

Regarding PS episode, beaded vest was fake due to it not being beaded on both sides. It also did not use sinew, but rather cotton as thread per the appraiser.
Oh, to get back on track, I seem to occasionally forget leftovers I place in work fridge
until it's too late.

Eh, I may be risking it, but about once every week or two I forget to put the leftovers in the fridge overnight and I haven't died of food poisoning yet. I might be a little more careful if it's something I've cooked medium rare or less, but mostly it's just casseroles and things and I don't worry that much about it. But then I also eat cookie dough without too much fear of salmonella no matter what my mom told me growing up.

Yeah they are always popping and busting over stuff.... Weirdos. Some of the stuff they find is interesting though.

Well, I do microwave it pretty hot again and that should kill most of what's in there

Yes, but it was delicious (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fO2P-RO7UVA)
I suggested they might be okay, but between my wife's objections and the obvious signs that the cats had climbed up on the counter and played soccer with the burgers during the night, I reckoned it was better to let it go. With a little self-berating of course.

Same here. People lived for thousands of years before refrigeration.
