Hello all,

First of all, still a new bike mechanic. :)

Recently replaced the cables on a Volpe. It has a Tiagra component set. However, I can't seem to get the FD to work right, and I think it's because I'm routing the cable incorrectly. The pic below shows the FD (bike is upside down). As you can see, the cable is rubbing against a cylindrical black plastic piece. When attempting to shift, I can't even get it out of the granny gear, because the cable tension is way too high.

What's going on here? :notamused:

Did you shift down to the lowest position before connecting the cable? I don't see how high cable tension should cause your issue.

Figured it out. I believe it was a compound problem - I didn't shift to the smallest chainring before tightening the cable, _and_ the outer limit screw was totally screwed in. Made the appropriate adjustments and it's working much better.... heh..

Thanks for the reply! You were definitely on the right track.

I was about to mention the high-limit screw (as it did appear cranked down), but I thought it pointless since there's no reason to touch the limit screws when merely changing a cable in the first place.
