Hi all,

I have a 2009 Haro RC10, with shimano gear set and I'm getting a creak/squeak noise when I pedal uphill, (i.e.: when the drive train takes some strain :)) flat & downhill pedalling is fine. I had trhe bike serviced by the store I bought it from. I think all they did was oil the chain profusely. :( . Any ideas as to what could be causing this noise? (and how to fix? :))

My first guess is the bottom bracket. But to be 100% sure you would need to provide a little more information. How frequent does the squeak occur? (once every revolution of pedals, etc.) Where does it sound like it is coming from? Are you using a square taper bottom bracket? Are there any other symptoms that accompany the squeaking?

I have often mistook creaky saddles for drivetrain noises.

Yeah, that is possible. Although the OP said it happens during climbing, and I assume he means it squeaks even during out-of-saddle climbing.

Thanks guys, that helps, the squeak is each revolution of the pedals, I'm not sure what type of bracket I have though. Didn't think of the saddle, would be worth a check.:)

Make sure pedals were greased to the cranks and all of the spokes are tight (loose spokes will creak) . Then tighten every thing you can tighten, bolts, crankarms, headset, stem, bars ect. as you could find several things loose. Most of the bikes from the factory don't have any anti seize or grease on the Bottom bracket. Lube the inside of the cups to the bearings and the threads to the frame. Then go test ride again to see if still there.
