So last night I was watching the local (action) news, and saw a story about a cyclist being hit by an off duty police officer! Apparently the police determined that the cyclist ran a red light, and the driver (the off duty police officer) went through under a yellow but MAY have been speeding. The cyclist is in critical condition. Now from the pictures of the accident scene they showed the cyclist had at least half a brain (he was wearing a helmet) but it is my suspision that he didn't run the red but rather jumped it, thinking there was no more left (across traffic) turning vehicles coming. anyhow this is a weird story, as you may have guess the cyclist is being blamed, and the off duty police officer has not been charged, or given a ticket of any sort. Of course I was not at the scene so this is all speculation, and I'm not saying that the cyclist is innocent, but really now, who would run a red light into on coming traffic?

This sort of thing is why I always stop first at red lights and have a look after that. If the cyclist has run a red light, he's got bugger all chance of getting any justice (even though it appears to have been a deliberate assault from the above summary of events).

Mind you, one always has to be careful at traffic lights. On a number of occasions I have almost been cleaned up after riding through a GREEN light because of some stupid colourblind redneck f*ck coming the other way.
