Hi All,
My name is Bryan and I am a return rider. I haven't really rode in a long time(15-18 years) but decided it would be the best way for me to get into shape once again. It would be nice not to puff and huff going up the stairs at work. hahaha
Today I began that goal by purchasing my first new bike in 20 years. It is a 2011 Trek Gary Fisher collection Utopia. It's so pretty I am afraid to ride it... hahaha. Been lurking here for only a week but it seems like a great forum and I am happy to be aboard.

Congratulation Bryan. Now you must do two things: 1) post pictures of your new bike (sorry, it's a rule, you gotta do it - :) ) 2) Get out there and ride it!
Here's hoping you have as much fun on your bike as I have on mine.

Very nice Bryan, I just started as well, I have about 100 pounds to lose and this is a great forum to be a part of! Get out and ride as often as possible!

Congrats!
Bryan - Nice Scoot.
I also have recently quit lurking. Bought a bike and have enjoyed my short journey so far.
I look forward to every bit of riding my hectic schedule has allowed with my week old bike,

Your in Southampton, I'm in Wiarton, there a bike shop in Southampton or did you go to Owen Sound? Either that frame is a little big for you, or the saddle is too low. This is a great area for riding, providing you don't mind the occassional small hill. I was riding Thursday and I think out of 1:15:00 , I spent 1:14:20 climbing.... Just fitted the road bike for outside for the summer yesterday, so I need to give it a good run. Going to head toward Big Bay, and see how it goes....
Welcome to the herd, and nice bike :thumb:.

Nope... not a 29er.
The seat was a little low in that picture. I raised it up about an inch and a half. It's a 17.5" frame. I just have short legs... hahaha.
The ride was very short as we had to go to Collingwood today to find my wife a bike as there was nothing that really peaked her interest locally.
I ended up getting her a Specialized Ariel. She loves it.
I am loving the bike and can't wait to get out for a good ride. I ended up taking my old... very old... Raleigh Recoil MTB out with the trailer attached to drag the kids around a bit... jeez they are getting heavy at 8 and 5!!!
The wife is loving her new bike.
I got the Trek in Southampton as they didn't have anything that I liked at Bikeface in Owen Sound in this kind of hybrid/dual sport bike.
Hopefully I can get the ticker into better shape and slim down the midsection at the same time. So sick of wearing a 60 pound backpack everywhere... hahaha
Thanks for all the welcoming words people!!

Very nice ride, now get it dirty and post another picture! Show me a clean bike and I'll show you a bike that doesn't get ridden much :D. Seriously though, nice ride. Enjoy it!
Your new ride looks awesome.

There are a couple of other shops like Jolleys in Owen Sound (which is hard to find), and Wheelfast in Hanover (really nice guy, even if he does look like he's still in 1975), Collingwood is a little far to go for things like warranty repairs and such. Hope ya got a nice ride in Saturday, supposed to be wet and windy now for a few days :( It always does that the week I take the bike off the trainer, weather forecast in the morning is bright, warm, windless for the next couple of weeks, I take the bike off the trainer and it turns cold, wet, windy.... Cold isn't the problem, and wet I can deal with, throw in a stiff wind on top or a thunder storm, and all bets are off. I was averaging 110km/wk from January to March, it's dropped off now that I'm off the trainer, but I will get in some workouts. Just looking, it's supposed to stop raining mid afternoon, so if the roads dry up, I might just make another attempt at riding to Big Bay.....

I have never heard of Jolleys. They should really do some marketing... hahaha
We were at the Wheelfast in Hanover about 3-4 weeks ago and didn't see anything that tickled our fancy.
Super nice guy... but definitely see what you mean about stuck in 75'.
Went out for a quick 1/2 hour jaunt on the rail trail today(despite the inclement weather)... feels good. Need to get gloves and padded shorts though!!!
I figure that if I get out at least a little bit everyday I will build up to some nice longer rides.
110km/wk up here... well done. I need to get a trainer for next winter to keep at her.
Definitely some good thunder and lightning this morning here. I snuck out while it wasn't raining so I was safe.
Good luck with hitting Big Bay.. hope the weather holds out for ya!

110 on the trainer was Sunday, Tuesday 25km and Thursday 25km with 35km on Saturdays. The real issue is trying to find 25km of paved road, without taking the highway at some point. Jolleys has a website (http://www.alternativewheels.com/about/news.php)you may want to look them up.....
