Bicycle Mechanics - Replacing 2006 Veloce rear derailleur with 2011 model?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Can I use a 2011 Campagnolo Veloce rear derailleur as a replacement for my 2006 Veloce 10 speed rear?
Campagnolo's web site says "parallelogram with 11s geometry". Does it have a different cable pull amount than the 2006? I'm keeping my 2006 shifters.

How about looking at Campagnolo's site, or even going a Google search.
Check item 15 on this. http://www.campagnolo.com/jsp/en/faq/faqcatid_9.jsp
Any reason why you can't use a 2010 model, or a 2011 Centaur?
For questions about Campag, the best place to ask is on Campyonly, they only talk about Campagnolo, so will be able to give much more specific answers than on here. http://www.campyonly.com/

So, the answer is "no"? I did all those searches, including campyonly. It still wasn't clear (even "Item 15"). The 2011 Veloce is still 10 speed, so I thought it might be possible.
Isn't a Centaur just an upgraded Veloce, so why would a 2011 Centaur be compatible?
The only relevant post at campyonly was this. I don't have much confidence in the answer.
11 Speed Rear Deraileur on a 10 speed

11 speed deraileur works fine on 10 speed set up.
You need to change the 11 sp pulleys to 10 sp pulleys.
Also, I swaped out the titanium parts from a record 10 sp rear deraileur to a record 11 sp.
Makes it lighter and more or less equivalent to a super record rd

For 2011 the 10 speed Group sets are Veloce and Centaur
The 11 Speed are Athena, Chorus, Record and Super Record
Got a little confused with your 1st post, as it was referencing 11s Geometry for a 10 speed derailler.
from this, can see no issues with using either Veloce or Centaur on your 2006 setup, guess which ever you can find cheapest

That's right from Campagnolo's web site (http://www.campagnolo.com/jsp/en/groupsetdetail/item_cambioVE10_catid_1.jsp) on the description of the 10 speed Veloce rear derailleur. I'm trying to find out if the cable pull distance per shift is still the same as the old style 10 speed. Even though both are 10 speed, they could be incompatible.
It also says the derailleur uses "Ultra-Shift™ geometry"
The issue is not cable pull, the issue is the actuation ratio built into the derailleur.
