Bicycle Mechanics - Where can I find these? (Brake cable bolt things)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was hoping that you could buy something similar to this at the hardware store or something, because I really don't want to have to buy a whole new brake caliper.

Go to your LBS. You won't find it at a hardware store and shipping will kill you if you try to order it.

Seems like maybe some bike shop in CdA, Lewiston, Moscow or Boise should have 'em. If not, I might have one I can spare for cost of shipping.

It came from an old Dia-Compe single pivot. I doubt the LBS would have anything to replace it since it is so old, but I suppose I could dig around in their parts bin tomorrow.

I do indeed have one. Not as pretty. Plain nut instead of acorn nut, but will get the job done.
I'd imagine $3 or so to mail it.
How many do you want? Need to know the width at the base where the cable goes through since there are a few types.

Yeah, I tried using one from a different bike and it didn't fit.
Just measured with caliper, and it was just under 5 mm (4.9) across the flat part
I'm sure I have the right ones. I'll check Monday and confirm. BTW- how many do you want? If only one the postage could be higher than the part.

I'll check in the LBS parts bin first, but if I don't find any, I'll send you a PM. Thanks a lot BTW.

I'll check the dimensions on mine tomorrow and let you know. I have the part in my hand but the calipers are at the shop. Between the LBS, FB and me you should be sorted out in no time.
Eyeballing with the ruler it looks like this one's almost 6mm from flat to flat, though.
Diameter almost 7mm.

Went to the LBS earlier today and, after a few tries, they were able to dig one up for me that was the right size. Free of charge. Never underestimate the power of the LBS.

Your friendly LBS is not entirely a bad thing.:)
