Hi everyone another noobie here!

Well let's see...I rode my first organized bike ride in 1976 on my brand new Free Spirit 10 speed bike I got for my 12th birthday. Some of you may remember that American classic.

I raced as a youth, but never really did anything more than just local events. Placed a few times, but was never committed enough to train as a competitive cyclist should back then.

I began riding cross-state tours with a friend many years ago and have ridden the Bicycle Ride Across Georgia 5 times. I plan to ride RAGBRAI one of these years, and hope to do many more cross-state rides! If you've never ridden one, you should try. It's really a great way to enjoy our sport, and see places that many people never get to see.

I love riding centuries, I have ridden several centuries in Georgia, Alabama, North and South Carolina, and Tennessee.

I was doing well up until about 5 years ago when I started to develop arthritis in my neck. The pain became so excruciating I found it nearly impossible to continue riding a standard bicycle anymore. I now spend most of my time riding a Bacchetta Corsa in the northern parts of Atlanta.

I recently became interested in commuting to work via my bicycle, but I didn't want to ride the recumbent. I set out to look for my new bike. After watching the discussions about the Nashbar X cyclocross bike and how people seemed to be fairly happy with them, I decided to get one myself.

One of the greatest lies in cycling has to be, "Honey, this will the last bike I will ever have to buy."

Well, I have begun working on my new cyclocross/commuting bike. Even though I worry about the pain, I really don't think it will be much of a problem because my commute will be about 10 miles each way. I had to convince my wife that I could do this, and my doctor even said he thought I should.

If I ride longer rides or centuries, I will be on the Corsa.

But I'm looking forward to fighting high fuel prices by commuting to work on my new X crossbike!

Keep the rubber on the road!

Chris

Welcome Chris.
Post some pics of the Nashbar CX bike when it's finished, maybe in the Atlanta/Decatur thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php/234331-Atlanta-Decatur-needs-a-LONG-quot-What-s-Up-quot-thread-too!) so the locals will recognize your bike when you're on the road. :thumb:

Awesome. I'll keep an eye out for you. I ride from Decatur to SM and back all the time.
I'm guessing the Nashbar CX bike is black and the Bacchetta Corsa is metallic titanium.
You can easily spot me (http://web.me.com/ronhorne/Site_2/Rons_Tattoos.html).
