Southern California - Anyone Rode up the steep La Jolla / Torrey Pines Hill?

I'm proud to say that my cheap fuji and I took her down today...
I wish I could say the same about the descent but the massive headwind took away from
the awesomeness of the way back down..

Oh well, still breathtaking once you reach the top..

Any of you do this hill a lot? If so.. how long does it usually take you? :P

I do it all the time. It's pretty nice and it's great for hard repeats. I don't really time myself going up, but if I'm just going up coming back from a ride, I'll do around 10mph average going up. I much prefer it to the street side.

I haven't ridden it since they started the road construction on the bridge just north of it. I prefer the more scenic inside route to the longer route on 101.

I rode the steep scenic route yesterday. A great way to finish off my ride from Irvine to La Jolla.

Why is there two bicycle computers on your handlebars?

Did you mean the street side or the park side btw? I average 10ish going up parkside but the street side is a lot easier.

The park side is nice to ride up with all the nature and scenery, but going up the street side isn't that great since you're just against the cliff and getting passed by cars and there's a lot of sand.

Now that you have done this one, you should go north to the Big Sur area and climb bigger hills with even more beautiful scenery. I did both on a Pacific coast ride two years ago and still love to look at the pictures I took.

one for each wheel maybe?

One for the back wheel for cadence, one for the front wheel for everything else. :)

I'll be heading up the inside route tomorrow morning around 9:00 a.m. after a quick stop at Java Depot.

a couple of my buddies and i are doing a LA to SD ride in 2 weeks. we will be riding it on fixed gear. hopefully my legs dont give up halfway.

5 minutes up the hill is a good time
6.5 if youre tired.

LA to SD is pretty much the flattest ride ever. Torrey Pines is a total option. It's completely possible to just slowly grind your way up the top.

I've toyed with doing the ride fixed. I've done it geared quite a few times and you don't need to shift all that much. Not even 1000 feet of climbing last I remember. Make sure pendleton is open when you go.

+1 Even after 13 years here, I still have to make an effort to contain the giddiness. And it occurs to me at least once every day how lucky I am to have landed here. (I've lived in a lot of different states [even Texas, which is where the tube is inserted when the Earth needs an enema] and so have a keen appreciation.)

I prefer to stay on PCH, because I can't resist showboating in front of all the girl hikers walking around the steeper, westerly route up Torrey...
