Hi.

I'm looking at heading down the fixed gear / single speed bike route. I'm only using this bike commuting and i live in London. I ride about 18 miles a day five days a week.

I'd like to know if anyone out there is using a track bike for this kind of journey and if so how are they finding it. I've seen a few guy's nipping about in London on fixed track bikes with a front brake and it looks like a lot of fun.

Looking at Condor / Bianchi / Felt for the bike in question... Is there anything i need to be aware of? Riding angle / position? Injuries? Comfort?

My commute usually takes about 30 minutes or so with a couple of minor hills. I like the look of a basic fixie so it's easy to maintain and has less chance of getting stolen than a road bike.

Any tips, advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

J.

Also, The intro section has a lot of good resources.

A lot of these links already have threads started on the same stuff so just hop in if you have questions.

Didn't find much help there. Direct responses to my question would be great.

So, averaging 36 mph on the commute...

Advice: Purchase the most bad ass looking bike you can. Then, ride it. Sort the rest out later. Only minute adjustments with fit.

pretty sure he has to come back from work at some point... so it is probably 9 miles each way... so it would be about 18mph. Math is hard.

less chance of getting stolen than a road bike.

Don't bet on that.
