With cold weather setting in and winter almost upon us, I was thinking about what are the differences/drawbacks between bib tights and regular tights? Which type/brands would you recommend for cold weather riding? Thank you.

I find bib tights and bib shorts more comfortable as you don’t have the waist band. If you are wearing them for rain or warmth having the bibs coming up over your back is better.

As far as brand, fit and quality I use World cycle productions catalog service. http://www.worldcycling.com/merchant.mvc All brands fit different they know what is what. Call and talk to them.

What about the pad vs. no pad issue? No-pad says you wear cycling shorts underneath the tights and don't have to wash the tights as much. That's what I have done. However it would seem that the pad included would be more comfortable. Is this true?

I vote for bibs in the winter.

Astompa,
no pad means you don't have to wash as often. I prefer padded because I prefer a single layer until it gets really cold.

Has anyone tried the Pearl Izumi Thermafleece tights? $85 without chamois seems very exspensive

I wear bibs under my bid tights. I don't have any tights with pads. In MN I'm looking to add layer to keep warm, I don't need two pads.
