Does anyone know if it is ok to strip paint from a bike by blasting with walnut shells when the entire bike is chromed under the paint? I realize that the polished chrome that is exposed needs to be protected, but will this type of blasting damage the unpolished chrome that is now under the paint and which will be painted over again?

As a sculptor I have read of restoration projects where walnut shells were used to remove harmful sulfides without damaging the actual patina. For what it's worth. Have not done it myself but know that the Longfellow statue here in Portland and the Lady Victory were both beautifully restored. Don't know about chrome.
