Classic & Vintage - My kinda interesting weekend........

So as usual like most of us, I keep my eyes open for some sweet bikes, whether it's out on the bike paths, or on the local craigslists, or searching garage sales.

This weekend i ended up buying 3 bikes, but i'm just gonna show you this one.

It's a bianchi celeste.
- It has some campagnolo all over it, not sure which type of campagnolo, hopefully someone can specify for me (The downtube shifters, derailleurs, hubs and rims), the rear hub looks awesome with the shape that it has, i've seen it a couple times on the forum before
- Cinelli stem
- Gipemme Crank i believe? if not can someone tell me what it is, the crank cap says gipemme, couldn't find any campy badges on it, it says "Dual Spline" on the arm
- 3ttt seat post
- really nice Modolo levers and modolo professional brakes
- a rudelli headset, i don't know much about these maybe someone can give me more info
- bianchi pentograph

The paint on the bike is good, not amazing though, there's some paint chips, very few, and one small little rust spot on the seat post lug. I've always wanted a celeste for myself but unfortunately i don't think this will fit me, the parts on the bike seem to be pretty awesome, my favorite being the black modolo levers and brakes.

Anyways just wondering if you guys had anymore info on the bike, hopefully bianchigirl reads this and can give me some info, i couldn't find any model names on it, so i'm not sure where this bike ranks in the mid to high end range, just by looking at it, i'm guessing high end. also what year is it? and what type of crank arm is it? Also it's colubus tubing, but what grade of colubus is it?

The other two bikes i got were just some brand new columbus slx bikes that had been sitting in a basement for years, nothing really worth mentioning. ;) just wanted some more info on this one.

Thats a nice looking bike. That seat on the other hand is SOOOO ugly!!

i haven't done anything with it yet, that's the way it came, haven't even thoroughly cleaned it, actually i don't mind the seat that bad, but i wouldn't keep it on there if i were to ride it

Oh, I realize that is "as found". The saddle is just strange I guess... like it looks fancy with the nice stitching, but it's odd to me that it says "no slip system" as large as it does. They must really have thought that was a selling point I guess. It's like buying a car with "great fuel economy" painted from the trunk to the hood.

Still, it does not strike me as a cheapo saddle for whatever reason. The rest of the bike is obviously pretty fancy.

I think the consensus on that special Bianchi tubing was that it is Aelle. Someone correct me if I am wrong, I read it somewhere on these forums a long time ago.

Do anyone know what type of campi this stuff was?

the Campi stuff is... Nuovo Rec RD, Corse Rec. era shifters (are they 'doppler' style or standard friction?), the rear hub may be a early Record 8sp I cant reallt see it well enough to count the cogs, if the hubs are a pair they could be from an early Chorus 8sp group.


interesting frame I would say the Formula II tubing would be about '86 but this bike also has over the BB cable routing. the decal style looks odd too but things done different in the canadian market.

should be a great riding bike, I can't to see it all cleaned up.

PS: the crank looks, from what little can be seen, like a Campi clone and could well be a GipMe or an Ofmega with the GipMe caps.

Odd ball indeed. The drivetrain looks to be a mix of old and newer hubs. But the frame has standard brake bolt mounting, above BB shell routing, and the Modolo brakes are dated model with conventional levers. The NR derailleur too. One assumes it's likely pre '82. But the decals look late 80s. None the less, it's a nice find.
