interestingly enough, I've spotted a few of these on CL and had the same initial hesitation about them despite a really attractive price. The price alone made me wonder if they were still exploding ect...

I agree the price isn't expensive as HED or even Aerospokes yet still a very attractive and lightweight carbon wheel.

How long does carbon fiber last? How many miles before it dies? It's plastic. I support you wanting to find a great wheel, but man I'd be remiss if I did not at least warn you. My 1997 Mavic CXP21 from is finally dying and my rear blew the side wall. They are aluminum with thousands of miles on them. I am getting nervous about my Look Carbon Fork which is from the same era.

what ive heard:

the very first model had a problem. a few of those "exploded" from hard usage.
they then made "stabalizers" to add to this first model to make it safer.

all subsequent spinergy models had said problem fixed, and are perfectly fine.

lots of people only hear about the first model failing and attribute that to all spinergy models.

im no expert though.

Thanks for your input. I only heard the older models and seen pictures of the older model break. Anyways, I also have the stabilizers that Spinergy sent me to keep the wheel from exploding.

i don't know the type of riding you're doing or how much you weigh, but no matter what, riding around fixed on a carbon fiber wheel of that age is a toss of the dice.

if you're really that concerned about it, no amount of reassurance is going to clear your head enough to enjoy riding on it.

Do a search, you will find tons of threads arguing whether the Rev-X is safe or deadly. I'll let you decide that one. Either way, whether you're riding it FG or freewheel has no bearing on its safety.

Having said that, I saw a guy with a Surly Fixxer on a Rev-X. So yes it can be done.
