Classic & Vintage - Copake, NY swap meet, 4/15

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Anyone going? It's about a 2.5 hour trip each way for me. Is it worth it?
Mostly into lightweights. Older is definitely better, which I assume would be better represented at Copake anyway.
I've gone the past few years but am unable to make it this year. There's lightweight stuff there, but it really seems to draw a heavier balloon tire crowd.

I think You can view the auction items ahead of time on their site. Check ahead of time and see if anything interests you.
**edit**
wait, is this a swap meet or an auction?
**edit again**
Its both. The auction is on saturday and you can bid absentee over the internet if you want to.
Here's the catalog of items which includes all the lot numbers to bid on and estimated selling prices.

I went once a few years ago and wasn't blown away by the VLW offerings or the prices. I did buy a handful of goods (e.g., Britannia grips), but it wasn't worth the drive and the motel stay the evening before. As in all things, ymmv.

Hmm. This would spend some "free time" capital I should probably bank, then. I was encouraged by this bikeville blog post from a year ago: http://bikeville.blogspot.com/2010/04/some-pictures-from-copake-swap-meet.html
Thanks for the comments.

They had significantly more VLW bikes last year (http://copakeauction.auctionflex.com/showlots.ap?co=9768&weid=11890&weiid=0&archive=y&lso=lotnumasc&pagenum=1&lang=En), and some sold for bargain prices. Maybe that's why there are fewer this year.

Check out this '37 Hetchins, sold for only $900?:

Or this '48 Galletti. Maybe not a steal at $1100, but I'd rather have it than a De Rosa or Merckx for the same price:

Or this Colin Cape for $325? Only $325?!?!!

Or this '45 Drysdale track bike. $400?!?!? The stem alone is worth that.

There are more, but it's too painful to post, especially since so many were my size!
Oh, and there were 3 crappy Alenax bikes that sold for between $250-$400. Huh? I always think those people at garages sales are crazy, but maybe not.
I'm not sure the Copake people know much about the kind of bicycles we talk about here.

No, I don't think they are VLW people. But I was wondering what type of crowd the swap attracts. I can't make it to the auction, anyway.

You don't need to make it to the auction to bid. You can bid absentee over the internet.
If anyone is looking for a road trip this weekend, come on up to New Paltz. I'm really sorry that I forgot to post it here.
