...it rides like a freakin' dream! Davis Phinney Serotta, courtesy of facilitation by BBM. Rear hub is Uniglide, but there's a new 126OLD HG freehub on the way so I can mess with the gearing more easily (a 42/21 combo just won't cut it in these Virginia hills!).

Bar tape has been replaced since these pics with my favorite brand O' softy gel stuff, and there's new brake cables and yellow housing on it now. Tires are like new (heck, the whole BIKE is like new), but sadly the Avocet saddle is pretty much down the tubes. Any ideas on a yellow saddle? I've been looking at the Selle Italia flow gel, but suggestions would be appreciated.

I really like this one.

Bet she rides great.

Doc, that is a beauty! Can you hear me whistling in NH? Wow!

IIRC, you don't care for Brooks? The Violet Colt I'm running on the SR500 comes in a mustard yellow. Not as flashy, and not an exact match, but would compliment the C&V nature of the frame.

I've no idea about the comfort, but it looks like it would be a good match to your new bike.

Or this one appears to be the same as your current saddle, just trimmed in blue instead of red.

Sweet looking bike. If you go to the saddles section of ebay and search for yellow you'll get lots of options.

I'm not feeling any better about passing on it, but I sure am glad for you. Wow.

Saddles, in yellow, I can think of 3 yellers, right now, including one that I'd envisioned on there while I was drooling.
Selle Italia Genuine Gel Trimatic
Selle Italia Genuine Gel Flite (narrower and longer)
Selle Italia Gel Flow SLR. I just got one of these, and it's very comfortable (unlike the old SLR) and nearly as light.

Personally I would go black saddle (Turbo or Rolls) tape and cables.

I made a point of not taking this one for a ride before I moved it along. It is my size, and I just didn't need to deal with the temptation. :)

Personally, I'd de-yellow it a bit and go either white or black on the bars and tape. But if you're looking for a classic yellow saddle:
http://www.probikekit.com/us/contact-points/bicycle-saddles/san-marco-vintage-concor-bicycle-saddle.html

Or, saddle and matching tape:

Best looking yellow saddle:

This one isn't bad, but the seller is kind of a schmuck from my limited dealings with him...

By the way...bike is totally 100% awesome. i LOVE the yellow (which is my favorite bike color next to orange).

Agreed, and agreed. Black saddles are never out of style. I have Rolls saddles on all my rides, and I know BBM swears by Regals, so there are a couple options.

I saw this beauty before BBM shipped it off, and as great as the photos are, it looks even better in person. Congrats on a good score.

Wow! Nice bike!
+1 on the turbo saddle. a classic Flite would also look sharp.
I think Yellow would look great, but red, black or blue (with matching bar tape) would set it off as well.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I may just go for the Flow Gel SLR. I like the looks of the Selle Success V2 saddles and the embroidery kinda fits the graphics. For the price, I could get one in blue and one in yellow. The Sub was yellow and red, so I've already been down that path, am thinking possibly yellow and blue.

But the all yellow just makes me happy.

Who wrapped the bars?

As found in the wild.

I did not fix or re-wrap the bars before selling, as I figured the new owner would want to enjoy that pleasure for themselves. :D also - If I had done a re-wrap, I probably would have filched the stem and bars while I was at it.

After much contemplation, I think i"m gonna go blue. Which means re-housing and re-wrapping, but what the heck.

I just think the blue will really make the bike pop.

But until the saddle arrives, I'll ride it yaller.

That will look really sharp, and will be the perfect canvas for your upcoming 8sp Dura Ace purchase :D :innocent::innocent::innocent:

Beautiful bike regardless of the saddle or bar covering.

Since you said it rides like a dream, how would it ride for a 190#, vintage rider?
I've never owned SL, but my 60cm, butted 531 frames are not my..... ? ... steadiest? I love 'em just a bit noodly.

I'll bet Davis and his son would get a kick out of seeing this. We didn't make that many and even fewer seem to have survived. Keep this and enjoy it and do a few sprints for Davis.

We're in the same weight range- I fluctuate between 192 and 198- and it rides, well, like a dream.

Funny you should say that, Dave. I'm trying to figure out the year on this- the Serotta forum shows the model in 89 and 91, but some earlier catalogs are missing. Based on the components (VERY early tricolor Uniglide) I'm guessing early 87.

Odd connection here, too: my daughter's in-laws are HUGE bikers, they live in Colorado, and there's Parkinson's in the family. A trifecta.

Improvement today: Hyperglide freehub arrived yesterday, installed today and put a 12/28 HG cassette on it- still 126 OLD.

Made a few RD adjustments and away we went. Much easier on my well-toned but aging legs. Such silky shifting action, love the Tricolor stuff. With a 38 in place of the 42 small ring, this will have the same gearing range as a compact 50/34 with a 12/25 9 speed. I'll post more pics when the blue Selle V2 saddle arrives.
