Here we go again!

Here comes the 3rd annual springtime Brooklyn Bike Jumble! Now one of Time Out NY's 101 things to do in New York for the Spring!

The ‘anti-Craigslist’ returns! Vendors will be on hand at the 3rd Springtime Brooklyn Bike Jumble to sell new bikes, clothes and parts and accessories to get your bike back in shape without the hassles of looking on Craigslist at dodgy bikes.

The Brooklyn Bike Jumble has brought together New York's premier cycling vendors at The Old Stone House in Park Slope, Brooklyn for three consecutive years. On hand will be kid's bikes, cruisers, BMX, mountain, racers and fixed gears, both new and recycled, parts, accessories clothes and cycling related bric-a-brac. Truly, a flea on wheels!

How is this any less sketchy than Craiglist in terms of selling stolen goods?

I am in the process of trying to buy another bike, and I went on craigslist yesterday, price gouging. Seriously. $550 for a 'vintage' fuji hack single speed.
That is just wrong.

It's better than Craigslist in terms of buying stolen bikes because you're there and can look at the bike and the seller and make your decision in a public place (you know, the old fashioned way) rather than at the behest of somebody made anonymous by the internet.

This just added: the Jumble will be hosting a concours (bicycle show and competition) to present the title of ‘Best NYC Bike’.

The public is welcome to enter bikes in the competition. Bikes have to have been built in either New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or Pennsylvania or have some sort of compelling story that inextricably ties the bike to New York City.

We did this the first year and the winner was this cherry Dick Power, built in Sunnyside, Queens in the fifties:

It's TOMORROW! TA will be there promoting their 'Bicycle Ambassadors' program.

How was it?

It was a modest event. There were about 15-20 vendors, most selling vintage parts and bikes. Mr C's had the largest table but it wasn't clear if they were selling anything or just getting themselves known. I saw some good deals on wheels, and some clothes that were also a good price but fugly. I still don't understand people buying these beat up bikes that were crappy in their own day and paying good money for them, more than they were new (I know, I owned a few of them myself at some point and I bought them new). We're not talking about classic or antique bikes here. And where do all the bikes come from??? Either garage sales or "left out on the street"?

There was a new/old pair of Sidi Genius 4 shoes that I thought would be my size that I went back to try on as they were closing down but they didn't fit, it makes me wonder about Sidi's sizing.

Agree with zacster-lots of old low end 10 speeds selling in the 300 dollar range. But, when I was there, lots of folks were looking & test riding. I felt torn between being happy for more people getting into cycling and wanting to tell them they were paying too much for an old bike.

Darn, I was hoping for good deals. Like on the last day of the International bike show and the vendors were selling their display items cheap. $300 for a 10 spd? Jeez, I know 12 speeds are old, 10 spds are even older. We're talking the days of Wonderama and their Ross 10 speed Bikes as a prize old.
