Utility Cycling - My Thoughts on the BikeRev EcoShopper Trailer

I was loaned an EcoShopper to evaluate on condition to provide feedback.

I know AdamDZ and others have lots of thots on trailers ;-)

I have a Burley flatbed that I use in conjunction w/my Xtracycle. The only reasons for a tub/container based trailer that i can think of would for things that have to stay dry and/or loose (bulk compost sand ect.)/semi-liquid loads.
I can handle just about every thing else with the flatbed.

Will the Tough Box hold 4 large bags of groceries?

The axle is well rearward of the center of the load, putting a fair amount of weight on the hitch. Did this have a negative effect on the handling when carrying 60+ lbs?

It looks like the rear of the wheels is about in line with the back of the box. Can you stand it on it's tail to store it?

It will hold four large bags of groceries. I don't think 60lbs would be too much on the hitch. I haven't tried loading it up with as much stuff as my Xtra (like a large cat-food/litter haul) but I'd be surprised if 80 lbs would bend it. It would also be easy to re-bolt the cargo box a few inches to the rear in order to better center the load over the axle.

correction! I tilted it back tonight and it's not tippy at all--and thus explains the wheel placement on the trailer, it sits solidly against the back of the tub and upon it's wheels.

Ian at BikeRev makes a great product for a very modest cost. Best of all, his trailers can lock securely in addition to being virtually waterproof. I've got one of his regular trailers, and then I've made several versions using his trailer kit. It's a pretty bombproof trailer and tows great. After several Burleys, one BOB, and a couple of Wikes -- it's the trailer I've kept since day one.

Still like to try an Extrawheel sometime though...
