Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Non-aesthetic build-related question...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi forum -
About to swap out frames and I'm deciding between some parts I have laying around, namely which 'cheap' crankset to use when I rebuild.
What is the consensus on pake cranks vs. truvativ touros? I plan on keeping my eyes open for a nice 'real' crank upgrade at some point, but between the two, which is 'better' to use in the interim?
I guess the better question might be, "would anybody 'buy' a set of touros" (rather than them being spec'd on a complete)? Or, to be fair, vice-versa even (that is, you can question why I bought the pakes prior)?
Thanks for the input

The touros I've had were just fine. A little noisy but no real problems with them. I don't have any input on the pake stuff though.

Personally, I'd go with the Touros. Despite people hating on them, I really liked the seat I had and used them on 3 different bikes.
Would I buy a set? I'll put it this way - if they were available at the same price as a Pake set and that was my budget, I'd go with Touros.
Pake cranks use a more common square taper BB, where as the Touros use a powerspline system. Powerspline BBs arent hard to find new online, but you probably dont have one laying around and most shops wont carry them. Something to think about.

I like the Touros that come stock on Kilos. I never had any problems with them while I was running them. I've actually never heard of anyone hating on them for any legitimate reason.

My friend had a set of Touros/S100 on a Bianchi Pista, it started to leak out some black gunk out of the bb...not sure what it was but gross.

Thanks all for the input! I think I'll run the touros (i'll reuse the BB - though I thought it was square(have to double check) for the time being and keep my eyes open for a nice used set of 144 bcd cranks.
Next question is gonna be about frames :) [Scrod, was thinking of ordering a Rumrunner and fork from Retro - "support your local moderator" and all :) ]
Cheers
