Bicycle Mechanics - Twist Grip Shifter Help

For anyone who's made the conversion to twist grip shifters, who would your recommend SRAM MRX or Shimano Revoshift? This is a budget conversion. They are priced comparably.

I don't remember how the cables are replaced in the Revoshift but it has to be easier than taking the MRX apart. On the other hand if you're buying new they'll come with new cables already installed and the cables will probably last a long time.

My 7-speed MRX don't require dissassembly for cable changes. You just peel the rubber up near the number 7 and you'll see the cable end.

My first cable change on my SRT-600 8-speed gripshift was pretty daunting, as it does require dissassemby but it's been much easier with subsequent changes.

My SRT-600 shifts better than the MRX, however. Because of that I'd seriously consider splurging on Sram Attack if I were shopping.

Sorry, but I've no Revo experience. Aren't they for IGH only?

Ahh, I see some Revoshifters for derailers. Never tried them, though.

I only see 8-speed in shifter/brake combos which is a turnoff for me.

7-speed or 6-speed Revoshifters would be worth a look into, though.

Sram makes several price point twist shifters. The ones on my bent are Sram 5s they have worked flawlessly.

I'd go with the Shimano's. SRAM's grips tend to turn to tar with age. You only need a thin bladed screwdriver to remove the cover on the Shimano shifter for cable changes.

I just had my 7 speed Revoshifter apart last night while doing my Xtra conversion. First time ever messing with a twist grip shifter, and it wound up being pretty simple. The shifter has lasted for 6 years of fairly heavy use with no problems.

7-speed or 6-speed Revoshifters would be worth a look into, though.

The ones I'm looking at are 6 sp NOS for a flat bar road bike conversion. I was surprised to see Revoshift for a 6 sp though. It will keep costs down because I won't need a new freewheel if I keep it at 6 sp.
